Try your local auto parts store. They sell gasket material in sheets that works very well.

I carry it for $6 per wrap blank. I have the natural and speckled cork along with about 30 other leather blanks plus snake and Lizard wraps.

i got my at Auto Zone like sheldon said.i think the roll was enough for 4-5 wraps and it is cheap.it starts off .080" or so but is easily sanded to size.

cork

your talking about sanding .if you cut the grove to normal size after you finish the cue how do you sand it down without damageing finish or am i missing something ?

i run the cork through a drum sander, but i have seen guys tape off the cue and sand it on the cue too.

I've only done one but it turned out very nicely. I used my normal wrap groove and sanded after it was on the cue and the finished rubbed out. I tried using fine sandpaper but that never worked at all. I ended up using 120 or 180 stiff sandpaper so that it kept the cork level. I stopped just short of the ends of the wrap and then mounted a laminate trimmer on my tool post with a 3 inch fibre cut off wheel at just a slight angle to the wrap area. With the lathe turning at around 200 rpm I fed the wheel in just enough to mill the cork down to a perfect fit on both ends.

By the way, I got my cork wrap from Chris Hightower while at V.F.

I now run the cork through the splitter, so I don't offer the 1/16" thick cork any longer. The cork does compress and cuts a little thicker than leather, but is still only a few thousandths thicker than leather.
