Maybe I'm just going out at the wrong time, but I can't seem to find anywhere to play in the East Portland/Gresham area since Classics closed (I heard from someone that they closed, I haven't actually driven down there to find out for myself). I go to Fortune Star, Pub 181, Midway, Rodders, and a couple other places because I hear "you'll find some masters and A's there," but I just can't seem to find them. I'm an APA 9 and I'm sick of playing nothing but 4-5's... I forgot how to play safe lol.
I went to Midway in Oregon City looking for a game (just fun, no gambling till I get a new job) and instead found a tournament. I try to enter, and they say no 9's or masters allowed! What the hell, I thought Midway is where the good locals show up? I see Bobby Zack, Glen Atwell, Mike Zimmerman all over the trophies at Midway.
Is there some amazing pool hall on the East side of Portland that I've just never heard of? I need to branch out beyond playing slam ball on a bar box with my 70 year old friend who is a 4.
I met Ray Cunningham at Fortune star and he's a pretty solid player, I think he's a master, but he's the only player I've seen there lately worth shooting with. Again I'm not looking for action nor do I want to travel, just looking for somewhere close by to have a beer and shoot for fun with some skilled players.
Also, are there any good weekly tournaments? I have played the Pub 181 Saturday tournament a few times and did well, but I don't like getting up that early on Saturdays because I work late Fridays.
Thanks in advance everyone.
