Scooter Goodman is the best player here in Cleveland yet I haven't EVER seen him. I've been running around from tourney to tourney, room to room, and keeping up with the pool world over the past two years and I've never once seen him or heard a story of him being around since 2013. Yet he'll show up at Derby City and play for 20k or whatever lol. And he popped up in that American Roadplayer Documentary. WTF?

Same with Adam Smith. I think he lives somewhere within a few hours of Cleveland. A year ago he was at every tournament in the area beating everybody and now he never shows up anywhere. I haven't heard his name mentioned in a long time.

Where do these people go? Do they work for a living? Do they just take a year off every once in a while or what?

I'd love to know...

Maybe they're hiding out in that old bowling alley being renovated at E 4th and Euclid?

well if you play full time you run out of action real fast, so they are probably on the road. how many 20k games is he going to get in his hometown? is he the best player up there or the highest bettor?

A lot of the guys that I've known just move around. Most of them don't have 9-5 jobs so they're free to move about from city to city and state to state. Like someone already mentioned, when you play that strong, action can dry up pretty fast. So you have to move around and hope you end up someplace where you can either make a huge score or at least get some good games and work your way up the food chain making money in the process.

I've also known a few extremely strong players ('06 DCC overall winner comes to mind) who basically just quit pool and started working. I'm not saying they never play at all anymore but they've definitely stopped playing full time.

Let's face it, regardless of how good you are, this is a tough sport to do for a living.

I noticed your location....is Middletown Whitey still playing?
....last time I heard, he was playing at Michael's.
I always liked his competitive attitude.....a great guy to play with.

A lifestyle that adds to the % of the homeless. How many of these "best players in -----"
that do not hold a decent job, and depend solely on their pool skills or other gambling adventures, stay successful? I'm not talking about the game's elite such as Shane and a few more, although even some of those struggle I'm sure. I'm talking about the hundreds of players that try and continue that lifestyle that has proven itself time and time again to have the capability to destroy their life....:frown:

This one is too easy to answer,

The answer was in a post that will win

POST OF THE YEAR!!

They all hang out at the SPERM BANKS, getting stronger wrists and better strokes.

There is no telling where alot of these great players disappear to. One thing I can say for sure is that if they are alive, they will always be back at some point. You reach a certain level of proficiency in pool and its just about impossible to stop cold turkey and never again start back up.

Try the poker tables at Casinos or golf courses or the gin rummy game at the 19th hole. If you gamble for a living you have to diversify, pool alone won't make it anymore, not since the 90's.
