I know he's still in Dallas and that he no longer players pool. Hasn't played for maybe 3 years. He has pretty well withdrawn from anything pool related. I would guess he still has a piece of Clicks, but I'm not sure.

Dick Lane

He played pretty good back in the 70s when I saw him play. I also thought I saw him at the DCC a few years ago. If my memory is correct he used to take a lot of strokes before each shot.
{But then he usually made the ball}

Bill, he played better than "pretty good." He's run 324 consecutive balls in straight pool and nine straight racks in nine ball. From a 2000 Texas Monthly article that labeled him the best pool player that the state of Texas ever produced, we read that, "In 1973, competing in the U.S. 14.1 Open, a prestigious straight-pool tournament, he toppled two top rivals, Ray Martin and Danny DiLiberto. Based on that performance, he was asked to play in the inaugural Pabst Brunswick 14.1 Invitational Tournament in 1974. He was one of six competitiors, and the other five were all future Billiard Congress of America Hall of Famers. Lane finished first, defeating Luther "Wimpy" Lassiter in the finals—to this day, a major highlight of his career." Here's a link to the article: http://www.texasmonthly.com/2000-01-01/sports.php

Thanks Bill. For us who know Dick, we won't forget.

I believe that he won one of the Willard Open Tournaments also.

In 2003 I played in a BCA qualifier in Tulsa. The winner got their entry paid into the Pro Event in Vegas. Dick Lane won it. He played in Vegas, but didn't fair too well there.
