Where is the 626?

When the stolen Pam Anderson/ Tommy Lee porn video surfaced and was distributed online by a vid company in mid-1990s , there was pent up insatiable demand (pardon the pun) that broke the internet.
Pam and Tommy sued the company and they eventually settled (likely they took cut of revenue). The vid grossed $70+ Million. Unheard of numbers for a porn vid. Some say whole thing from leaked news, media circus was shrewd marketing strategy crafted by Pam/Tommy.
Not suggesting that strategy in this case
The difference is the number of people in the world who are interested in seeing what's on the tape.

I personally wonder many of the same things but am willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

However, without an *unedited* video, at some point in the future... the run never happened and I don't care who says otherwise.

But it was witnessed. If those in attendance for the entire run signed an affidavit attesting to it, why wouldn't that be enough given that it was enough for Mosconi? I'm similarly rejecting the suggestion that a world record doesn't count unless it is recorded. The exception would be if it was unwitnessed.

Your high standards in having this validated to the max is to be admired, and like you, I think the release of an unedited copy of the run is well advised. That said, though, I don't think it's necessary.

I wonder how concerned John is about the opinions of AzB posters in this thread. Not exactly a massive market sample, even if they are the most obsessed.

If his goal is to monetize the run by focusing on pool fans rather than going for a broader audience on YouTube, then he should be highly concerned about what people like AZBilliards posters are thinking.

I think if "monetizing" the run is his goal he needs to expand the market way beyond the pool-obsessed (which includes me, by the way).

Well, just using Guinness as a ferinstance, they require at least two independent witnesses (and from reports to date I don’t know that that happened).

That means witnesses independent of JS *and* each other. They also require that video evidence show the entire record attempt from start to finish -- that means, to me, an unedited video. I don’t think any of that is too unreasonable for a world record.

Is Willie's run a Guinness record?

Dan’t know.

The 526 happened in early 1954. Guinness started keeping a record book in 1955. Soooo, probably not. I don’t think the Guinness World Records was “a thing” until much later.

The only known witnesses for the entire run were John and the rack person.

Ouch
