I have never been to Big Pool Tournament, Shows, Vendor Fairs, Cue Expositions, and was wondering if I should save and try and go to the Hopkins Show in 2006 in PA.

Or try and get up to Las Vegas Next Week as it is only 5 hour or so away. The Greyhound Ticket price from Youngstown AZ to Las Vegas is not bad, and I am looking for some feedback I should go, or waitand save to go to PA in 2006?

Suggestion Apprieciated.

Better tournament is Vegas, closer, cheaper (if you don't gamble) for you too.

Besides a million things could happen by Next March to prevent you from going to VF. Get on the bus dude.

Second that motion. Your most important tournament to see the big boys shoot is your first one... and it's a doable bird in the hand NOW... get moving. And who knows, it may fire up your game by two balls, and lead you to other commitments to go to tournaments between now and VF.

Thank us later. And bring digital camera and autograph materials for when players have some time after their matches... may help defray some costs, will be memorable anyway.

This will be my 1st time to Vegas but I can tell you that there will be more pro's and more action overall in Vegas. VF is a GREAT time to be had and I wouldn't miss it since I don't live far from it. Without having been to Vegas but knowing what's going to be there, my suggestion would be to go to Vegas also.

Hi Bruce,

I've attended both events for many years. The Hopkins event for cue enthusiests is better. All the best show there. Vegas is more about price and variety than top quality. The Hopkins is a nine ball event both professional and amateur. The BCA's are eight ball for the amateur and nine ball for the pro's. Which do you like better? The Hopkins has about 1000 attendees. Vegas about 6000. The Valley Forge event can be reached through Philadelphia's airport. Fly Southwest from Phoenix. Its a direct flight. A taxi out to Valley Forge will probably be $50 minimum. The Greyhound station in Vegas is in "Old Vegas" next to the Plaza Hotel. A cab ride to the Riv is less than $10. DON"T WALK!!!!! If you decide to play some (or someone) only bar boxes are available at both events. For big tables, The Las Vegas Cue Club runs a shuttle between the Riviera and The Club. I think it runs hourly throughout the day. Don't expect that kind of service at Valley Forge. The best and safest pool room is Drexeline Billiards in Drexel, PA about 20 miles away.

I am a walker, and have no problem with it. I will only go to Watch, and Do Some Shoping, if I find anything I can not live with out.

Now you all have me thing of Jumping the Dog, to Vegas from Youngstown.... ;)

Ok on your walk from the bus station to the Riviera then, make sure that you wear full body armor and don't make eye contact with anyone. At least then, you are giving yourself a square shot at making it.

Is that a misprint?

Maybe he means players in the event? The Open 9 ball at VF was supposed to be 1024 (not sure if that actually happened).

I'd be surprized if there were less than 8-10k people in the Expo Center at any point during the weekend.

I had to squeeze past 1000 people every time my beer required refreshing. :D

You dont want to walk to the Strip from Downtown man. Is it not the length of the walk that is the problem or the heat (which will both suck in their own right).

I've only been to Vegas for the APA and the vendor exhibition really, really sucked during that, maybe the BCA has a better one. I think the question of which one is better may come down to whether or not you like Vegas. I personally had all I could take of Vegas in one visit and will only go back there again for the competition (if we qualify again).
You should probably do Vegas first anyway because of it's proximity to you. Though I've never been to DCC, maybe as another poster said, it would be the place to go.
As far as the walk goes, skip it and take the cab. I'm a runner and I've walked a mile or 2 out there at a time, but it really is pretty hot. And as others said you can't get from old Vegas to the Riv without going through some pretty questionable areas.

Either way, have fun.

Bruce,

Regardless of the total number of players, rail birds, spectators, families or shoppers attending either event, DO NOT walk to the Riv.

If you just have to do it, Leave the dog pound. Turn right. Follow Main Street South. Keep walking about three miles South. Main Street runs into Las Vegas Blvd right below The Stratosphere (you can see it at all times). The Riv is another mile South of that intersection. I wish you good luck on your journey! Pay attention to your surroundings.

In late October, the BCA will hold the National Bar Box Nine Ball Championships at the Plaza Hotel. When you leave the dog pound, if you look left, thats the Plaza Hotel. They will also hold the US Open One Pocket and US Open Bank Pool Championships concurrently. Nowhere as big but great players none the less!

That's odd I always thought Las Vegas Blvd ran east and west, so I looked at a map, you're of course right. It's funny how when you fly in to a location without reference you bring built in perceptions concerning direction.
It really has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but I found it interesting.

Go to Vegas. You will like it so much you will have to go to Hopkins too. If you only go to Hopkins then you will always be wondering what you missed in Vegas.

There is a bus from downtown to the strip for only $2.00.

I tried walking from the Aladin to the Stratosphere, stopping at every casino on the way. Didn't make it. Then got on the shuttle bus which goes to the front door of every casino. Only time to ride that monster is early in the morning. But now I hear the monorail goes a lot further.

I was last there on 9-11-01.

Very true-there are certain places i go where i have these built in perceptions which are wrong and i just cant lose them. I continue to think North is South etc. One of these places is Hard Times in Bellflower which i just conquered i think after 4 trips there. Now i reference the mountains which are in the North. Wouldnt you think they'd be in the East?

Okay, I live on the eastcoast and I prefer Vegas. Really, it's the best event of the year and if life had permitted it, I would be there right now. Understand though that my home room sends at least 3 teams each year to the BCA Open Team event AND at least 5 of our regulars play in the professional event so we're ALWAYS a large crew. Between the drinking, gambling, drinking, shooting pool and drinking, it's a lot of fun. Valley Forge is great but not as much fun.

I walked the whole damn strip...one direction only. It took all freaking day and tore my feet up. That was our first Vegas trip...on our second we opted for the rental car.
