I plan on venturing into the cue making world in the next few months and need to purchase some supplies like ivory, joint pins, stainless joints, rings, collars, etc. Any websites you frequently deal with you would like to recommend? BTW, this isn't going to be a "business", just a hobby.

Hi Kev,
Try Chris Hightower at www.cuesmith.com and he posts here as cueman, Atlas Billiards Supply at www.cuestik.com, Prather's at www.prathercue.com or www.cuecomponents.com

Hi Tank, I just looked at your web page.
You planning on making a cue like your Schon Limited or your Samsara?
Those are two very nice cues and I bet they are very enjoyable to play with. You are a couple of years away from that level of cuemaking :p .

I started making cues about four years ago as a hobby but switched it to a part time business. I plan on making it a full time business If I ever retire.

I bet you are the kind of person that will take to cuemaking like a duck to water. You are gonna love it.
It is by far one of the most personaly rewarding activitys I have ever done.

Have you purchased Chris Hightower's Book on cuemaking yet?
As far as I know it is the most comprehensive and detailed book ever written on cuemaking.
That book is the very first thing you should buy.
http://www.cuesmith.com/main/books_videos/index.php

It will give you a good solid understanding of what is involved in making a cue and what equipment you will need.
Chris also sells quality cuemaking supplys and he is a highly respected cuemaker himself.
Most cuemaking equipment comes with a video showing the process step by step and how to set up and maintain the machine.

Dont be afraid to experiment and remember ... you learn a lot from a mistake.
If I can ever be of any help to you please feel free to call or even come to my shop for some hands on.

Thanks Guys.

I remember when you starting posting on ASP/RSB and started making you cues...you have come along way, I really like your work. I'll be ordering the book ASAP, I knew there was one out there, just wasn't sure if it was a video or book...THANKS!

As far as making anything elaborate, that's not gonna' happen for quite some time. I'm looking very basic and "growing" from there, I do plan on making a bunch of mistakes. :D

Thanks again!

Yes, you need to meet your life's quota of mistakes now, so you won't be able to make any in the future :D .

Thanks,

Jon
(And i'm working on just that, in all aspects of life :D .)

I second the recommendation for Chris Hightower equipment, I have one of his lathes.
Sharp looking bike Tank, but where do you store your cue?

Believe it or not, I strap it to my back when I ride to league. I bought a case that had a long enough strap to go over my leather jacket.

BTW, I will be saving up for Chris' lathe. ;)
