Where is everyone buying your carbide cutters and toolholders? Not sure if the toolholder should be 1/4" or 3/8". I have a Midamerica basic repair lathe now, but have ordered their large bore lathe with 3/4hp motor and will be selling my basic repair lathe when that arrives. I also will probably be ordering a quick change toolpost. Some of you may remember I tried one before and sold it as I didn't see the need for it, but will probably be buying another.

Did you have to make a base so it would fit the midamerica

No, I modified the base that came with the tool post. Drilled recessed holes and bolted it to the cross slide with t-nuts.
i made a base out of .25 6061 flatstock, i had to extend the plate, i made, out away from the work, it was impossible to have installed the toolpost and to function up that close to the work

I did somewhat the same. Except I went the cheap way out. I bought some square unistrut washers .Offset the holes for the crosslide and tapped the hole in the middle of the washer for the qctp. Now I have enough travel to actually use it.

i have mine over far enough i use the same bracket and bolt hole for my router. I modified the router mount to use a spindle and added a wider foot at the base to help with vibration. The flat piece of 6061 has separate holes drilled to mount my rounter horizontally. I did make a few brackets, before i made the final one, which facilitates everything except my bird house for coring
