depends on what you mean by 'good'

if you want the old stuff used by so many cuemakers, ie Southwest,
in has not been available for abouit 20 years

Westinghouse used to be one of the largest manufacturers of phenolics in the world. They probably made 50 different types ALL of which were called Micarta. That was there trade name just like Formica is a brand name for Melamine. Only 3 or 4 types of Micarta were or are of interest to cue makers.

Sure but I ain't payin' $50 a ferrule which is already yellow from age and is toxic.
I'll just use buckhorn.

A cuemaker in my parts has a peice that could make roughly 100 to 150 ferrules. He's had it sitting in his garage for about 20 years now. Last summer I had him replace an ivory ferrule w/ one, whereupon he only charged me $30 for the ferrule and a moori med. I thought it was a good deal at the time. However, now that everyone's saying that it is worth $50 to $100 per, it sounds like I got a steal...:D
