I have the following type motor and it just failed. It was running fine. Turned it on and nothing, no noise or warning. I removed it from the controller and plugged it up to a PC cable connected to a wall outlket and it still didn't run. Any troubleshooting advice is welcome.

Can anyone tell me where to find only the motor with a female PC computer type power connector? I read the controller is crap and I really don't need to pay for something I doubt I'll ever use.

Also, does anyone know where to get a rebuild kit for it?

Thanks!

These motors are NOT AC powered, they use DC so plugging it into a wall outlet will not make a good motor run. Usually the main reason for the motor not turning on is the ON/OFF switch going bad. Grizzley sells them for $4.

Have you tried banging the controller with the switch in the on position? There are a couple other items that can go bad, but that takes some troubleshooting.
PM me your number if you want to go over it.

I get a big fat Duhhhh for that. With all those electronics courses I took 25+ years ago you'd think something would have clicked when I saw DC on the label. I'm lucky I didn't fry it. Old age *sigh*

I got it running. It was the controller. It got dust down in the switch. I took it all apart and cleaned everything up and its running now.

Thanks Dave!

What do the brushed look like???

Plugging a DC motor in the AC wall connection will instantly burn up the motor. If it wasn't bad........... it is now.

The pennstate controller is famous for the on/off switch going bad. I keep 2 spare switches on hand. I replace the one on my lathe about every 2 months.

Glad you got it running. I have replaced switches on both motors I have already. It's a good idea to have a spare on hand as those type of switches burnout the contacts after awhile. Next time you order something from Grizzly, get a couple. They fit most bandsaws, tablesaws, etc. I used the big paddle type the last time, and it makes it faster to switch it off quickly(the oh sh@# shutoff).
Have a great weekend.

Don't know, I didn't take it apart. For all I know its Brushless.

I now see why I plugged it into the wall...... its a "120 Volt" DC motor. I still know better though. Thankfully its not fried.

I don't have the Pennstate state controller. The one I have has been fine so far, although this is the 2nd time I've had to clean it out. I have a boot over the switch but I guess sanding dust got it. Maybe I'll seal it. If the controller does goes up I'll probably pickup one of the KB controllers.

Yeah Dave, been meaning to pickup a couple OS emergency stop buttons :)

Hightower sells his own controller for these motors. You lose some torque and smoothness but if it goes bad a trip to RadioShack will fix it.
