Where to play in DC?

I'm going to be in Washington, DC for a conference next week. Where should I play? I'm not looking for action (I'd just be throwing my money away), but just want a place with some nice tables. I won't have a car, so I'd like some place in the District, not the 'burbs.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Buffalo Billiards, and also the Sharks Club. Buffalo Billiards is in the District and the Sharks Club is in Bethesda. Both locations are fairly upscale, but should have plenty of competition opportunity.

Hope this helps enjoy a trip.

I'd also recommend checking out Bedrock Billiards in the Adams Morgan area. It's a small place but they take good care of the tables and it's a pretty nice crowd there. Good bar too.

I Second this. Bedrock was completely underwhelming at first glance, but that impression quickly changes once you play on the tables. They are in quite good playing condition. The only caution I have (and you may escape due to summer) is that it can get full of loud college folks.

You could check out Recessions on L street (between 18th & 19th - next door to Mackey's). It's not a pool hall but a sports bar / restuarant with two coin-op tables. The bar tables don't have Simonis, but the cheap beer makes it worth a visit. Monday - Wednesday are the best days to find a game without having to fight for elbow room. If you see a guy playing pool with a glove, come over and say Hi.

Enjoy your stay in DC.

Edit: I forgot to mention that Recessions is within walking distance from both the Farragut North and Farragut West Metro stations.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up playing (twice) at Bedrock, which turned out to be only about three blocks from my hotel (Washington Hilton). Nice tables and friendly crowd.

Thanks again for your input. Next time I'm there I'll check out the other spots.
