Where's Cliff Thorburn?

Some one (Smashmouth?) was on here last week spouting off about Cliff T. playing anyone, other than the top players, for some serious money. As long as they played even he said.

I responded to that challenge, saying I would put a few players in the box against him for 5 to 10K a set. 9-Ball, 8-Ball, Ten Ball, One Pocket, 14.1, Banks, Take your pick. And he won't have to play Johnny, Rodney, Earl, Cliff or anyone like that either.

No response yet. It appears to be a hollow challenge. Hell, I might even play the man some Banks for a G whiz.

He still plays a fair game of snooker, doing fairly well in the Canadian Snooker tournaments. But I don't think he plays either pool or snooker full time anymore. But that's just what I have heard through the grape vine.

I believe he plays better pool than Jeff White though. But again I can't say for certain.

First up is John Schmidt and in the wings I've got kid Shane. If he wants to start out with someone softer, he can play Tang. If you're reading this Cliff, you can win 50K if you can beat these guys in LA.

None of these guys are monsters. I wouldn't put them in the box against Johnny or Rodney or the like. They are just good respectable pool players who can stand up for a bet.

You don't consider John Schmidt a 'top player'? Give me a break. Same goes for Tang. How many times does someone have to finish runner-up in the US Open before they get that label?

It's true; it seems like that bet would only be fair if John gave up some weight in the 9-ball set. Otherwise, John's a lock to win the 9-ball, so even if Quinten wins the 8-ball, the best he can do is break even. Certainly a good bet for Jay and John, but I doubt many people would like to be on the other side of it.
