Where's the Monk?

Hey I was just thinking about Warren "The Monk" C. and have not seen him up here in the NW for a few years now. Last I heard he broke his ankle and was points leader for some Las Vegas pool something.

Anyone have an update on Where Warren is and what he's up to?

I was also wondering if any have any great stories about Warren.

Me and my buddy watched him play Eddie C. for 26 hrs straight and he only spoke once. He looked at us two and said, "You guys sure must love pool."
He never spoke again!

Warren played in our recent One Pocket event, he finished tied for 7th.
Didn't have any cast on.
He also played in October's One Pocket event and the Chuck Markulis Memorial event.
He is living in Reno.

Just 2 days ago I was told he is still shows up in Sacremento on occasion, It is not a great story but I got crushed playing him 1 pocket once, Warren is very good pool player, but he is an exceptional gambler. I don't know him well but he seems to have a knack for getting the scenerio to one where his strengths are. In my case he would have beat me in either game but he got me to thinking that we would just go back and forth playing 9 ball so we should play one pocket. like i say he would have beat me in 9 ball but I had no chance playing 1 pocket. In order to get me to play game #3 we played his 7 to my 1 which is an emberrassing spot and I still lost.

I seen a guy who just came out of retirement when the Monk was in town, only to go broke back into retirement :sorry: At least you lived to fight another day :smile:

211 closed and The White Spot as far as I know is still open. I played a tourney about 4 or 5 years ago there.

If I remember he won the US Open he plays strong

He won the big tourney that Richie Florence put on at the Tropicana in 1979 I believe. All the top players were in it (including a few dogs like me). Monk beat Sigel in the Finals in one of the greatest matches ever. Monk had to cut a nine ball in from off the end rail to make it hill-hill. Then he made the nine on the break to win. It paid $27,500, serious money in those days.

I learned that the hard way:embarrassed2: . He was never nice to me whn I was a kid but....thinking back he was respectful and with few words taught me alot, he made me a wiser man, i didnt know it at the time-i do now reflecting back. I didnt see him for almost 2 years and was in Sac and ran into him, he didnt say a word-I started talking to him told him i was in Vegas at Cuetopia full time etc and he opened up and spoke to me like I was all growed up, I refered to the past-he had the book on me, even though I thought I was a pain in the ass kid, he made me feel that way(not many people ever did) he still took time to figure me out, he told me so all those years(5 or 6 maybe longer) later. I knew then that I was part of pool, period. Thanks Monk...
