Which Artemis cushions are correct for my table?

I'm thinking of taking my rails off and extending them to make the pockets 4 1/2" and 5" for the sides, and to correct the flared pocket facing angles. I bought the table reconditioned two years ago, and the guy put new, no-name pinkish K-66 cushions on at the time. They still play OK, but I figured as long as I have to replace them anyway, I might as well go for top quality cushions.

I got on the Artemis website and I see that they offer two "66" style cushions, neither one of which they call "K-66". One is called the "Intercontinental No.66", the other one is called the "Pool No. 66".


So, I have three questions I hope I can get answered here:


1. Which is the correct Artemis style to replace regular K-66 cushions with?

2. Will I need to recalibrate the sub-rails in order for the new cushions to play right?

3. Which thickness for the pocket facings is best (I'm assuming I should use neoprene facings)?

Hey, looky here, this is my 1000th post on AZB. And I originally joined just so I could ask a question about cues.

It would matter if you have a Gold Crown or other table that takes K55. If K66's are installed on a GC without recalibrating the sub rails, the table won't play right.

OK, I get it. :)

I'm not ruling out building up my rails and recalibrating them for K-55, but despite numerous AZB searches I can't find the advantages/disadvantages of either one, nor can I find exact instructions on how to do the job. I'll probably end up just extending the rails and sticking with the K-66 since I'm probably not a good enough player to be able to take advantage of any changes in cushion response.

If you table calls for K66, stick with K66.
 
The AE Schmidt tables at Dave and Busters are K55 and they play fast with standard cushions. Might want to double check if your thinking about using K66. What are you hoping to accomplish by using Artemis? I don't think the $250 difference is going to make much of a difference unless you change the subrail profile.

Donny, the guys I got my reconditioned table from are long-time Schmidt dealers in my area. In fact, Kurt Schmidt himself recommended them highly. They told me they put new K66 cushions on it when they sold it to me. They are coming tomorrow to work on the table, so I'll ask them again to be sure.

As far as the Artemis goes, I'm not really trying to accomplish anything specific. I figured that as long as I need to replace the cushions in order to extend my sub-rails I would just get the best rubber available, which I thought was Artemis. Is there another maker you can recommend? If not, I'll just buy a set from the guys I bought the table from when it comes time to do the work. Unfortunately, they aren't interested in doing the work themselves or I'd have them do it.
 
Actually, Dave and busters recently purchased a new set of rails from AESchmidt and they did come with K66. What I didn't like about the new rails is they didn't change the subrail angles or subrail hieght. They made a rabbet cut on the bottom for the rail for the cloth and they set the cushion low on the subrail, this is how they got the nose down. The new rails don't play as well as the old rails with K55. You might want to measure your playing field and see if its larger than 50x100, if your table is measuring 50 1/4x 100 1/4 than that extra 1/4" comes from the K66 cushion being 1/8" smaller than the K55

I use the MBS Pink K55 cushion on those table and they play well, that cushion is $60. Based on the subrail angles I wouldn't recommend an expensive cushion.

If you have the factory guy out there I'm sure they know more about their tables than I do.
