Which cost more? MOP or Ivory

Which inlays cost more....mother of pearls diamonds and dots versus the same but with ivory and dots.

As a raw material, MOP is a lot more expensive but you can buy standard diamonds, dots and snow flakes more cheaply, The work to do the inlays is the same. MOP comes in limited sizes and thicknesses, ivory is by the pound for the moment. Ivory is easier to work with

If you want to buy Ivory slabs or Mother of Pearl slabs then Mother of Pearl is much more expensive. If you want pre made dots or diamonds then Ivory is much more expensive. The reason is imported dots and diamonds out of Mother of Pearl can be cut out of any part of the shell. They don't need nice big slabs to do that and labor is dirt cheap in the parts of Asia they come from. On the other hand Ivory parts will be cut at USA labor prices and USA material prices.
