Just curious what everyone's opinion is:

Which custom cues have a similar hit to the Predator cues--this includes low deflection, more english with less effort, etc.???

Any custom with a Predator shaft will play like a Predator....
If you're looking for something then why not get the real thing?

This McDaniel will hit like a McDaniel but mostly it'll hit like a Predator, sometimes it'll hit like an OB-1..... ;)

Any cue if you put a Predator Shaft on it, and that would include the Kmart, Gart Sports, or even the sears specials.

Hope this tell you what you need to know.

I offer my own low deflection shaft on my cues, as well as the optional Predator.

Mike do you have a website with more info on your low deflection shafts?

Thanks.

@thomba02

From my point of view not every Predator hits identical or similar to a other Predator.

For sure a SPWU, 4k2 or LE XI hits different with the same shaft. I played all three ones for a while with a Z and Z? and with every combination the hit different.

Also tested a new 5k2 with 314? and it was again different.

I stopped playing with laminated shafts and changed to a nonpredator butt, but still wanted to give my little love (the LE XI) a chance.
So i bought a shaft with ivory ferrule for my old baby, and now it hits great ;-)

I think the better question would be: What cue and butt plays similar and hits better ;-)

I changed from the LE XI with Z to a Blud SP. To be honest, I cant tell you much about the deflection difference, but the change was easy for me and I got a much better hit.

Now Im testing the next change from the Blud to a TS SP. And the Blud will replace my BK2. Then Im nearly Predator free *ggg*

Why?

Why would you want a cue that played like a predator...and the other post is right, some predator butts were made by (I think) Falcon, some butts made elsewhere. Either people love or hate the predator hit, I liked my 3k5 for a while, until I learned about true custom cues and having a cue built to specs with the finest shaft maple available!

Yes I forgot the shaft quality thing !!
Try to roll your 314/Z shaft on the table and look from the side to it. I was scared (And I had the same thing on a lot of shafts)

The wood quality of the custom shafts is a lot better then quality of the Predator shafts. My 10 and more year old Scruggs and Blud shafts feels like new, also after one gaming session its much cleaner then the Predator shafts.

Hi Remy
I figure in time word of mouth will work better than a web page. I don't believe in the sales pitch of Creating questionable doubt to sell something. I'm in no hurry and it is quite a bit more work for me being a one person shop. I just want to control the hit of my cues without outside sources.

I saw the website in your sig after posting:embarrassed2:
So the best way to find out more about these shafts would be to call you or via emails?
thanks again.

hahahaha,
emails work the best, I stink at answering the phone, That's why I said, word of mouth, It'll take a little while to get around but not long at all based on the long plan. If someone decides to talk well of it, it will be because they actually like it, and NOT because it was given to them. For me there is no conflict of interest other that controlling the hit an options for my cues, I have one going to the U.K. with both mine and Predator, If he can switch shafts without thinking to much, I will take that as a huge compliment. There is no such thing as better than, when more than one opinion is envolved, but equal to, and as good as, works just fine for me. Everything deflects, it's just a matter of what level of it, is important to the individual player.

Had to share the review that came in from the U.K.
So far encouraging.

Hi Michael,

The cue is absolutely gorgeous. So pleased with it - I really can't overstate that.

Have managed to get a few hours with it on the table today. Have got to say that when I first handled the butt I was a bit worried as this is so different to the P2 I've been shooting with - much, much, slimmer - as I asked for. But i find it quite unbelievable how quickly i've taken to this cue. The hit is very different to the P2, even with a Z2 on it, but I love the feel of it. I played with the Z2 on it for 15-20 mins and then tried out your shaft. That's all I've shot with for the rest of the session. Great shaft, simply great. Different hit (which I'm assuming partly stems from the fibre pad?) but deflects very similar to the pred - if not even a little less. I set up an inside English drill I work on to compare and at first I missed a couple thick as I was maybe just allowing a little too much. But from then on no thought required when working off centre - simply aim, shoot and listen to the ball hit the pocket. Pocketing really well and actually really surprised to miss a ball about a half hour later.

In fact pocketing so well that I set up a couple of the stroke drills I've been working on with a coach and ran through them no problem - much easier than with the P2. Not a hint of unwanted side (sorry English). I'm hoping the thinner butt is the reason for this. Too early to say obviously but very encouraging nonetheless.

Now position - had the ball literally on a string. I felt like I could put the ball wherever I wanted and didn't get out of shape much at all.

The best session I've had in 3 months or so, and with an unfamiliar cue. Not what I was expecting at all, as you would think my brain would need at least a little time to adjust. As you can tell so far i'm over the moon with how the cue plays.
Might well be ordering another of your shafts sometime soon.
Many, many thanks for making me a great cue.
Best wishes,

Jonathan

Could'nt say it any better! I used to think the predator shafts were the best, that was until I picked up Mr. Webbs cue. One of my shafts is Mike's earlier low deflection prototypes and the 2nd is a new version that I just received.
Even though I feel my game has really picked up a notch or 2, I must give credit where credit is due. And it's not just my opinion, everyone I've let hit with it is VERY impressed and usually ask if I'll sell it to them, NOT!
I now feel a comfort level like never before, the cue almost plays by itself. The ball seems to go exactly where I ask it to with very little effort. I could go on and on but hopefully more people will find out what I'm talking about and quickly get on Mike's list. If you want a excellent quality playing cue from a great cuemaker, don't hesitate on a Webb.., you won't regret it!
Thanks again Mike, could'nt be happier!!!

Thank you Sir
The pleasure was all mine. A keeper is better than a flipper any day of the week.

Just a side note because of some emails I recieved, The low deflection shaft is not replacing my regular playing shafts, It is only an option for those who prefer low deflection shafts. My goal is to control the playability of my cues to the best of my ability as a Cue maker.

Hi there,

Wanted to chime in here. I just got my Webb, and it has his low deflection shafts. My previous cue was a Joss with a Predator 314 shaft, moori tip. I had no problem with the adjustment. Truth is, I didn't see any diffrence in deflection.

Now as I'v been using it I have found that I get far more spin with less effort than before. Alos I have found that unlike the Predator, it jumps quite well and consistantly.

The next thing I would like to point out is the hit. I can feel the hit, I don't know how to explain it, put it feels solid. So it is for me.

Now, if you are in the market, I would suggest Mike Webb to anyone that I didn't compete against. I tell them that Cuetech are the finest cues on the market and at a very reasonable price I might add:rolleyes: ...

Seriously, if you get a chance to hit with a Webb, you will know what I am talking about. And he is great to do business with, a true gentleman.

Mike, thanks for my cue, your the best...

Pete

There is another maker. http://queperfect.biz, and his LD cues are really something! English with 1/2 tip on a pred is achieved with something closer to a 1/4 tip with his cue!

That said, I would really like to get a chance to try a Michael Webb cue! Too bad there ain't any over here in Singapore that i know of that has one of your cues.
