I'm graduating from college soon and moving up to the DC metro area in Maryland next month and I'll probably be looking to join a new league. I've been a SL6 APA member for about 2 years now, but APA, TAP, and BCA are all available in the area. I just wanted to know what you thought is the best league to join and why.

I would go with BCA. Around here in my area its better competition.

lms9t...You've played APA for a couple of years. Do you enjoy it? If so, keep playing. If not, try something else. TAP will likely not be significantly different than APA. BCA will probably have better players, who play more seriously. Of course, there's nothing wrong with playing in multiple leagues, if you have the time, money and desire. Whichever you go with, always play your best, and play for the enjoyment of the game!

Try them all, see how they all are run in that area. See how you get along with the people that play in those particular leagues, as well as what you think of their LO's. Maybe there is too much gamesmanship in one over the other for you, or maybe that is what you are looking for. Maybe the "sandbagging" actually exists and is prevalent in one of these, and maybe it isn't. Maybe there are poor sports in one rather than the other. Could be any number of factors that could affect how you enjoy your league night. Who knows. You will, if you check them all out!

Nice that you have the choice. That means plenty of opportunity to play.

(Now I'll sit back, and watch the anti-APA stuff come rolling in....)

Exactly

Scott and justa both make good points. Much of the decision comes down to you. What is your skill level? What do you want to get from playing in league?
Also, consider that different league operators will also play a part in how things work in your area. We have a very strong, well run APA league in our area. Other areas may have leagues that are not run as well.
Are you playiing for the enjoyment of the game? Does a possible trip to Vegas pop your cork? Are you looking for a fun, sociable night out, or are you just wanting to compete at the highest level available to you?
Answering these questions will help you decide where you will be happiest.

since you are a skill level 6, i would recommend going with TAP, or apa masters division here in the maryland dc area.

i havent played apa masters, but i've heard good things. (im an apa 7, in 8 ball).

the tap leagues are outstanding here. if you join, you come in as a skill level 5. competition is tougher in tap than apa around here.

I'm definitely just looking to improve as a player and play serious pool players. I wouldn't mind getting my ass kicked all the time in a high quality league if it helps me get better in the long run. I'm excited to move up there though most of all so I finally get some decent well-kept tables to play on :D
