Although Mali's are decent cues they arn't worth alot. That one was probably from the 80's and is worth maybe $200, if you could sell it for that. You could probably pick it up for less. I've had 2 mali's and thought they both shot well. I just got one in fair shape off ebay for $36.

How much should I offer my friend for it?

Orb:

That is not a "really old" Mali. The pre-offshore Malis (i.e. still manufactured in the U.S.) have a green solid block-letter or ghosted outline logo, as shown in the pics in this thread:

Once production went overseas (in the late '80s if I'm not mistaken), the logo changed to the solid white/black (or sometimes gold) seen on your cue.

I have a 27-year old Mali with the solid green block letters, that I purchased from the original Q-Masters in Norfolk, VA, back in the early 1980s. And I know for a fact that my Mali (which I still have) was a US-made Mali, because I ordered it through Q-Masters' cue catalog and it was shipped to Q-Masters directly from the Mali factory, and I'd had that original shipping invoice for a long time, before it disappeared in the shuffle.

AZB user "manwon" seems to have old Mali catalogs, so perhaps you might want to 1.) post this in the "Cues" category of forums; 2.) reach out to "manwon" directly and PM him with your query.

Hope this helps!

The Mali you have is from the early 1990's (around 92.) It was part of a series referred to as Show Mali's. I am attaching a picture of my 2 for you to look at. They are from the same series as yours. You will notice the white pointed one and yours are basically the same.

Mali did not take their operation overseas until 2001. The different colored stamps refer to different manufacturing years. The logos went like this...

o Green, vertical Mali stamp. 1960's
o Green Boxed stamp. late 60's - early 1970's
o Gold stamp. late 1970's - early 1980's
o Green Horizontal stamp. 1980's
o Mali by Cuesports stamp. late 1980's
o Silver stamp (of which yours is.) 1990's
o Black Stamp. 2001 - current (overseas model)

I remember I bought my white point Mali in August of 1992 from the catalog. It was 180.00 new w/ an extra shaft that was an additional $50 or $80. I honestly cannot remember.

At one time (after I retired) I was going to build a Mali cue website showing all the pertinent data for Malis. However, when I contacted Mali about getting old material to create the site with...I was told that nobody that worked for the company now was around before the sticks went overseas in 2001 =( I never have been able to find any catalogs so I will be curious to see if manwon does have some.

Anyway. Hope this spreads a little light on the cues themselves.

I think your cue looks like a #13 from Mali 386 Series (1997).This model sold wholesale for $150. If you are selling it.I have a few Malis and would be interested at $100.
