I am looking at purchasing a lathe. Which one would you recommend. I am looking at the Smaller porper at $2000. Or maybe a hightower that will work equivalent to the porper. I am looking at doing tips, ferrels, maybe rewrapping a cue, and conditioning shafts. And is it possible to install joints, or collars?

The Porper will do anything you wish to do including building Sneaky Pete's. The machine is very stable on its platform, and very portable.

I personally own one, along with a Porper-B Model Lathe, outside of a full metal lathe I would recommend a Porper, nothing else comes close.

The cuesmith is nice. If you plan on doing any tourney work, Model B is the way IMO.

Whatever Brand you decide to go with. Do yourself a favor and get the full sized model. You'll be able to do more (like build a cue) In the long run it makes sense to spend the extra money now versus later and wish you had. I personally have the Hightower deluxe and it works great.......Dave

I have 4 full size metal lathes 12" X 37-40" and also have a hightower midsize lathe. If you go with Hightower make sure you go with the full size power head with the bigger thru hole. JMHO.

deff mid size or more.
anything ess your throwing you money away. you will be handcuffed very quickly with the small machines

for the $$$ i like my midsize. i can do everything EXCEPT taper shafts. i can taoer strait only.

whatever you buy make sure you have FULLL LEGNTH CUTTING ABILITY.

aslo some of the other lathes you cant tap joints
