Which pros play with ivory ferrules?

I think Rodney Morris plays with a Gus Szamboti with original shafts w/ivory ferrules. The last time I saw Kim Davenport play, he was also using a Szamboti with ivory ferrules.

I'm kind of surprised Rodney plays with ivory. I'd think it would be risky going through customs with any kind of ivory, so I'm surprised that any pro who travels much would want that in their cue. Has anyone had problems with this at airports?

I'm pretty curious about this, too. How would they know, anyways? Is checking pool cue ferrules S.O.P for airport security overseas? I guess I can imagine if someone is bringing a large load of cues over maybe they'd be concerned with smuggling, but someone with one or two ivory ferrules?

There is no ivory detectors... do you really think that average airport employee can tell the difference between ivory and white plastic?

There is a difference by carrying a cue with you and shipping it.
But if I was an international touring pro then I wouldn't be carrying any cue with ivory ferrule or joint as it is not extreme temperature resistance as metal or phenolic and it might crack. I wouldn't want to risk flying to a tournament and finding out when I land that I don't have a cue to play with...

I know there aren't "ivory detectors" but there is "customs". They could stop you and search your bags. Anything that looks like ivory might be taken, unless you can prove that it's antique.

Getting to the tournament with a cracked ferrule would SUCK though!
