1) pm for a price

2)make an offer

With out a doubt, it has to be #2 (make an offer.) What is doubly more annoying when a cue dealer tells you to make him an offer. That one escapes me. In the past whenever I dealt with John Wright and asked him for a price he always got back to me with one.

i agree i dont put a price on another mans goods

if a man tells you to make an offer he's giving you permission to set the price or at least start the discussion imo and i see nothing wrong with that.

its the sellers obligation to set the price

when it comes to collectibles i don't believe that's a prerequisite to a sale at all. the seller has no obligation to anyone but himself to take the money that will satisfy him. i think it's unfair to "demand" they sell themselves or the item short just because someone doesn't want to discuss price. besides being more discreet for the buyer and seller, one of the ways i think of it is, the seller has the item and "others" want it. it's impossible to be in contact with ALL of the "others" and let them know something you have is for sale so asking for offers not only gives a broader opportunity to reach more interested parties but will will also give the seller a better idea of the market "condition" for that piece. another analogy is to think along the lines of a major aspect of what made this country tick in it's early life, the trading of goods and services. people who wanted something traded things to the seller to get what they wanted, they haggled until both were satisfied or they both moved on. i look at it the same with collectibles. we all know the market for custom cues, especially in the mid priced range ($1750 to $3500 roughly), can be a very volatile one and i think should include this aspect also. i think that saying a seller include a "must" in HIS sale for it to be taken serious is just something I wouldn't do but i do respect others opinions i just don't agree with this one.

if they dont I Just say "i want to pay as little as possible so I'll give you $200 for the Szam". Thats a great ice breaker

at least it's a start. ;) :D ya' see i knew you had it in ya'........

Jmo-

If you do not like the seller's technique - don't respond, PM, offer, or bump. If the seller is successful using their method, they'll continue. Discussing it here won't change it - if sellers continue to try not posting price way and are not successful because everyone avoids their sales - then maybe it will change.

Annoying

Well Junior that is the reason for this thread..Maybe some of the sellers will read this and say "humm maybe i can attract more people if i put a price up there"... Go to the local store and dont look at the prices and ask the store people for a price on all the items you purchase..It will get very annoying in a hurry...Don:D
