Which Shot Do You Prefer & Why?

had this spread tonight men after the break. the shot on the '1' Ball has a very slight angle. so, which method do you prefer here?

1) Take Path A, hit the shot about 6:00 and somewhat draw it back out for the '2' Ball
or
2) go with Path B, follow and come off the bottom rail into roughly the same position.

i elected to hit this shot with follow to get into position for the '2' Ball, and eventually ended up running out this rack.

just curious which method you posters would prefer here?

p.s. cue ball failed to show up again, obviously its where the Red line starts

I would take Path A.

I think the line that you show for Path B might be off a little bit, because if I go down Path B there's a chance I may bump into the 5.

However, both paths should still allow you to make the 2 in the upper corner. It's just a matter of personal preference.

position

path a would be the correct shot imo.you have more control and shorter cue ball travel.also a better feel to stay on the right side of the 3 to get to the 5 .if you got to the short rail as in shot b,not only is there more cue ball travel, you are now coming at the shot on 2 different and bad ways for position, across the angle and coming into the cross section,if that makes sense.shot a you merley control how far cue ball goes to you left to stay on the pro side.also the angle on the 3 is critical for shape on the 5 as it appears to only go in the lower r pocket as you look at comp screen.this allows you to play natural into the six,and natural from there to the next break.imo.later

i tend to draw better than i follow, so if theres 2 ways to do a shot and theyre both pretty equal, i will draw

The more important question might be how does one get shape on the 5 after making the 1, 2 and 3. It's hard to tell from the diagram but it doesn't look like 5 will go in the upper right corner due to the 8. When shooting the 3 in the lower side pocket, it's better to have an angle so you can use draw to get the CB to the upper right side of the table for the 5.

A. It is the simpler route. Keep things as simple as possible which means limiting how far the rock has to roll on any given shot.

the other thing i thought about on this shot, and pondered as i stood over it was to use a half tip of left english on the shot, bring you more towards the '2' Ball.

however, i decided that with a somewhat long shot, putting english on this to obtain slightly better position wasnt worth it. the use of english here would seem to me to make the shot just a little harder than simply hitting it high.

I would probably do what you did and would also avoid the english, even though a touch of left is perhaps called for here. It just seems that using a little follow is the more leisurely way of going about it, and that usually means better results.
