Which table?

Hi all,

Im moving into a new house the end of the month and will be leaving my old table back in California. I will be buying a new table but am having difficulties deciding on which one to get. I've narrowed my decision down to 3 and looking to all of you for some feedback to help me choose.

1.) Diamond Pro - 9'
2.) Brunswick GC IV - 9'
3.) Gabriels Sig Pro - 9'

I've played on both Diamond and Brunswick in the past but never had the opportunity to play on a Gabriel, although I've heard they are very good tables.

I personally give Diamond the edge over Brunswick because of the flush pockets. However, most pool halls around here all use GC IV's. Will practicing on a Diamond and playing tourney's on a brunswick be a hard adjustment? My current table is a Connelly and it plays much much different than the GC IV's and I usually play like crap for the first few games.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Brunswick

I wouldhave to disagree. I think the Gabriels table would fall to the back of the back.

My order:

1) Brunswick Gold Crown IV (a timeless classic for a good reason. Its the best)
2) Diamond Pro (a damn close second! 100% true playing surface)
3) Gabriel (Good. Don't get me wrong. But definitely in 3rd place here.)

Tables

I have played on all three and they each have advantages. I personally own a Diamond Pro. The only thing I wish I could change with it is the pockets. I wish they would be like the Gabriels, deep and nice. I rate both the Diamond Pro and Gabriels pro the same and highly recommend going with one of those. The only thing I like about the GCIV is the sound of the pockets when you make the balls. It is classic and really noticable on Accu-Stat tapes.

OK, Only. Because you were gracious enough to rate my Gabriels even with your Diamond, I'll agree to rate your Diamond even with my Gabriels.

mike page <-- knows at least one Gabriels the guy has played on

I don't think so. Diamond pockets, assuming they're cut well and maintained to avoid any deforming of the faces, play very fair and consistent. Being tighter (generally 4.5") than gold crowns (5" or more unless you shim them), they'll teach you to aim more precisely, but unlike some crazy shim-jobs or bad pocket cuts, they shouldn't mess up your positioning by forcing you to trickle in balls that are shot down the rail. I think practicing on a diamond should only make the game seem easier when you go play on a gold crown.

1. Gabriels
2. Gold Crown
3. Diamond

I think they are all great tables and you won't go wrong with any of the three.

Does anyone know of a place near Raleigh, NC where I can play on a gabriel?

Thanks,

-Phillip
