i posted a thread last night about a mcdermott that i have been looking at. i wouldnt call myself a fan boy by any means, just havent had a stick feel as good as my D series McDs.... after searching around and reading a little, i had a few different cues that im considering and wanted AZBs opinion...

first off, the mcdermott G series... http://www.ozonebilliards.com/mcdermott-cues-g-series-cocobolo-with-5-ivory-and-silver-rings.html

second, Joss Jos01 or Jos04 - http://www.ozonebilliards.com/josscues1.html

or the lucasi lel - http://www.ozonebilliards.com/lucasicuelel.html

and lastly the lucasi hybrid. unsure about this one, but it is new a different - http://www.ozonebilliards.com/luhycuel3.html

im trying to stay in the 200-300 range. i like the warranty and everything of the mcdermott, but have been hearing great things about Joss. i havent heard much about the lower end joss cues though. and for the lucasi, i shot with one at a local dealer yesterday that felt pretty good, but do not know a whole lot about them.

please chime in with what you guys think. im open to other brands or anything you may suggest. i really enjoy the D series McDermotts... bought and shot a meucci with a red dot shaft for a little bit but cant get the feel for it. might give you guys a little bit of an idea as to what i may be looking for!

Cue

I would recommend the McDermott or the first Lucasi (not the hybrid). I don't care for the low end Joss's.

I shot a low end joss tonight and not sure if I like it or not. I'm use to a wood to wood joint and the feel of the metal joints kinda throw me off.... Or maybe I'm just a pansy haha

I did shoot a pechauer that felt nice for 320. It was a sneaky Pete and i don't really want another Pete butttt I could sacrifice looks.
Anyone know much about those though?

My 2 cents.

Since you don't like the metal joints, I'd go with the McDermott. That and I think it's the best looking of the cues you listed. I'd upgrade it to the I-3 shaft though, I think the G-core is garbage personally. The other thing to consider is that Lucasi and McDermott both have lifetime warranties that include warpage. Joss does not.

If price is the main concern, I'd go with the hybrid. Although it's ugly as hell, there's a lot of performance in that cue for a really cheap price. I'd upgrade that to the zero flex slim shaft.

i'm happy with my lucasi + 314 combo. i suppose the shafts does the job but lucasi makes great looking butt for good prices.

nothing wrong with nice butts!!
i ended up buying a used jacoby for a steal from a local player.
ill post pics up as soon as i get some.
it had a horrible, wore out tip on it, and the shaft had a scratch thats pretty deep in it about 6" from the ferrule.
im going to get the shaft turned down from a 13mm to a 12.25 which shoud get the place out of the shaft, and have a moori medium put on it.

for time being, i put a milk dud tip on it myself and the cue plays very well.
i am hoping to go with a 314 shaft soon though! hopefully i can find someone around here that has one that i can make a couple hits with before spending the cash

McD fanboy

when I joined a league i moved from bar cues to a McDermott cause of the warranty. im absolutely a fanboy of the mcdermott's now. im playing with a 19oz G with the stock maple shaft and a moori soft tip. I wouldnt play with anything else, i'm currently looking for a z2 for my 3/8x10 shaft. That would be my only caveat is the threading. its a pain to find a shaft that fits.
