I have recently switched over to a wd tip for breaking. I really do like it, when it stays on:rolleyes: Any advice on what type of glue works best on these. I have had two repair guys put it on for me not to last but a couple of nights. The last time I put it on myself (I had never tried to do that before) and it has lasted about 4 months, until last night. Any suggestions?

I have had mine on my break cue for over 3 years now and have not had one problem. I don't know what the guy used to put it on but someone on here will know for sure.

Although some will swear they have no problems...any of the non leather hard j/b tips just don't adhere well. Its the side force from a slight miscue that pops them off. Thats why I make mine with a tenon & thread it down into the ferrule...presto...it'll then stay on for life. This is impossible to do with the White Diamond tips unless you had a rod of the material & could machine your own tips. That being said...I think your best choice for getting your tip to stay on is going to be Gorilla Glue or JB Weld.;)

I use Loctite super glue gel and have never had a tip come off. I put white diamond on a break cue over 2 years ago using this stuff and its still on there today.

I hate Gorilla Glue because of the 'expansion' effect, but if you want that tip to stay on, then JB weld will do the trick.

A friend of mine tried Gorilla Glue... Three times!!!

'Nuff said!!!

The super glue gel is what I used the last time. Maybe I didn't do something right being that it was my first time tring to replace a tip.

I've used contact cement. Tape the ferulle and shaft first. The tip will never come off.

what ever glue you use make sure using a razor black several cuts on the ferrel and tip for the glue to adhere to.

It's not the glue, it's the repairmen. I've seen a few popped off. Also the WD on my breakcue didn't last long. So I decided to put it on by myself. I used a very cheap glue, but glued it with care. After a half year, it's still on.

Use a razor just to scuff it up, right? Also tommyt said to tape the ferulle? Is that just to keep the glue off of it? Sorry like I said I've only done it once and didn't really know much but glue it on. Thanks for all the help:D

Make an x with a razor on the back of the tip( be careful ). Tape the ferulle to keep the contact cement off it. Take your time because once you place the tip, it's permanent.

Good luck

This is how I did it:

Use a sanding paper around 400 grid. Clean the tenon and the glue-side of the WD. Make sure all the glue are gone. Put some glue on the tenon and on the WD. Put the WD on the tenon and make some twisting moves. Make sure that the whole surface are having some glue on it. Remove the WD from the tenon and let it dry for a like 2 second. Put the WD on the tenon, make some twisting moves and push really hard on it. Just get some pressure on it, and let it dry for a few minutes. Put some glue on the edge between the WD and the ferrule. Let it dry and sand it off. If you still sees some edges, just put some little glue on it and sand it again, till it get nice and smooth.

Most WD's require you to "score" the back of the tip and the ferrule for them to adhere in my experience. This goes for the early ones in particular. I use Loctite 454 gel.

KV is correct when he says that they pop off from blows to the side of the tip. The scoring helps prevent that.

Finally, I wouldn't blame the repairmen in this case. We all have had a couple White Diamonds pop off before we learned they have that tendency, and then we adjusted our methods of installation.

After having my first WD fail with Loctite CA, I switched to Gorilla Glue. Tip and ferrule get scuffed with 120 grit paper. Both surfaces must be ABSOLUTELY FLAT. With any hint of a convex shape failure is imminent. Last two have over a year with no problems.

Does it help if you install a Q-pad beneath it?

Jule,

if you think about a WD, get the industrial CA from Reichelt.de - I have used it in october and the WD holds well.

The brand is Weicon, Reichelt lists it as Kontaktkleber VA-100 in various sizes.

Detlev
