White streaks in finish?

I recently bought a cue and I didn't notice it at the time but under some lights (usually quite bright) there appear to be white streaks in the finish. They don't appear to be on the surface, rather like where the finish contacts the wood.

Is this normal? I've never noticed anything quite like it before. Any ideas what causes it?

Oh man, I SEE what you mean, totally grotesque. But yeah, that's normal.

Please tell us that you just forgot to post a pic.

I know at least 1/2 doz. CMs on here that would have a field-day with this.

The reason I didn't post a pic is that they don't really show up in pictures. They're light but noticeable in bright light. Perhaps I would have to actually be able to show them to somebody before getting a good opinion.

Just a guess

It could be a poorly applied finish and it is "lifting" from the wood. I've seen cues with "blotchy" white patches where the finish was lifting, but they weren't "streaks"???

yeah it's all along the cue. Faint, and unnoticeable except from closeup in bright light. Transluscent whiteish thin streaks all up and down. I'm probably making it sound worse than it really is, but maybe it's just something that someone would have to see to diagnose. I've just never seen it before.

I'm sorry, but for the life of me I just can't imagine what it is you're trying to describe, particularly in the absence of a pic.
Let's try this. Is it a production cue or a custom?
This may give an indication as to what type of finish it is.
But in either case, shouldn't you be addressing your question to the builder? They are the one(s) who will have the first-hand knowledge of their finish and it's particulars.
I have my doubts that you'll find anything that you can wipe on and make the streaks disappear so if this is really bothering you, the only option may be to have the cue refinished.
I don't mean to make light of your concern but until someone else can see what you're trying to describe, it's a lot like playing 20 questions.
Just a last minute guess, but this may have to do with the type of wood and whether it was properly sealed before the top-coat clear was applied or it could be a problem with the finish itself. In any event, I'd think that your shortest route to resolution would be to present your concerns to the builder of the cue.
