Who are the best players who bet their own?

I don't know about the Lil John you are referring to, but there's one around here in MS that just played a road player named Wayne for $1K in a set of one pocket and 9ball. He ended up losing $3K. Two days later he called Wayne and wanted to play a set of 9ball for $25K. Wayne was looking for a backer because his backer here didn't have the cash. Come to think about it, I wonder if Lil John happened to have a backer. I mean who has $25K to just gamble?

Hi xzylum,

I neglected to mention in my posted question to hemicudas that the "Little John" I was asking about was supposedly from Mississippi.

IMO - Life is what you make it - there is no luck or chance involved even in 9-ball!!!

Ok...your entitled to your opinion. But obviously...your name speaks for itself. To say that there is no luck even in 9 ball, might be one of the most naive statements about the game i've ever heard.

There is TONS of luck involved with 9 ball.

Luck in nine ball? On a given day, yes. In a given tournament, yes. But over a lifetime, you'll get about half the rolls and your opponents the other half.

Irving Crane, in his typically pedagogic way, used to summarily dismiss luck by saying 'prepare well and play well, and when it's you're turn to win, you'll win." I remember when he first said it to me, it seemed a very strange comment, but the wisdom contained has become more obvious to me over time. I won't suggest that I mastered ignoring the luck factor, but I'm getting better at it.

Luck is a factor in all pool games, especially in nine ball, but even in nine ball it has a way of evening out over time, leaving the spoils to those that prepare and play well. Among my favorites quotes is Jack Nicklaus' classic "the harder I practice, the luckier I get."

wow!!!!! Man/women chill.......... boy did you get it wrong.....never put him down... If you wanted to make a point about Harry it seems inappropriate here...

The list had full time pool players on it he is an anomaly there. That is all I was inferring. You put your own spin on it… Harry bets his own money no doubt.....Drew
