As of yesterday, I own my first jump/break cue. I've always jumped with my playing cue. I don't really intend to use the jump part very often, though I may well grab the full break cue for a jump simply because the Samsara tip jumps so well. I don't jump much, anyhow. I'll kick at a ball the vast majority of the time. What I consider to be practical jumps are when you just need to clear the edge of a ball, and then even the worst jumping cue in the world can easily get the cue ball a 1/4" in the air to clear an edge.
But if the question is can I do my absolute best jumping without it, from what I saw yesterday with just a couple of hours under my belt, no way. That said, I think that's 95% the tip, so as long as I could switch to my break cue I think I'd be fine.
