Who Do You Like For Next Qualifier??

I have to disagree with you about Wu. The IPT has learned that from this point forward, forcing every single player to earn entry on merit is the best path to buidling a tour consisting of pool's most elite. For me, the IPT's credibility has grown considerably snce it has adopted a truly objective method of filling its roster based completely on merit.

If the IPT names somebody to its tour, then it's statement that the 2007 tour will consist of 150 ---- the top 100 players of 2006 by ranking and 50 earning their way in through qualifiers ---- will have been false.

Credit the IPT for keeping politics out of the methodology by which its roster will evolve over time.

I strongly believe that the truly elite will have no problem earning one of the 50 spots up for grabs at the end of this IPT year.

It's a business not a democracy, you want what will be best for all, that kid could be important to the tour. Sigel is playing people every tournament winning money while Efrin is the KOTH champion and Sigel is essentially just another player at this point so why is he playing. Because that is what KT wants to do and it is no ones business nor does he owe anyone any explanation. Same if they granted the kid a spot or just put him on the payroll, it would benefit all. He could get attention no one else on the tour could get right out of the box.

This thing is not a sports tour nor a sporting event, it was never meant to be, it's a show and that kid is a necessary asset and KT should sign him up. Maybe another player could just step aside and give him their spot and KT compensate them on the side. Take say Danny D. I don't see him playing even one full tournament anyway. The format is too grueling for him at his age, he is half blind and I doubt playing very well. Since it is almost a lock he will drop out anyway it would be a nice way to slid the kid in, Danny just announce he wants to give the kid his spot. If someone else doesn't like it too bad. I think this thing is destine to fail but if it is to survive, you can't leave anything to chance.

I did not comment on the original 150. I simply noted that since then, an objective method of modifying the roster has been commited to and adhered to by the IPT. I'm impressed.

I'll also add that if the addition of marketable players is what you crave, the conversation begins with the addition of Jeanette Lee, not Chia Chang Wu.

You can see a sort of mind set with the original picks. He has a husband and wife, a twelve year old kid and who knows what others said in their résumés to get on. He obviously wanted something maybe a little off beat to market. He goofed up from the start though and has since been trying to please people. (Can you believe I said something nice about KT?) He needs to get back to running this thing with an iron hand with only the success of the tour in his sights, not appeasing everyone, he has allowed himself to get side tracked I believe. I like Jeanette Lee but Wu could get on every sports show and talk show where she couldn't. Nothing that interesting or new about her, he is a different matter though.

If I had a few dimes to throw around, I'd stake any of these guys: Warren Kiamco, Scott Frost, Richard Broumpton, Vilmas Foldes, Keith Bennett, Robb Saez, Santos Sambajon, Richie Richeson, Mark Jarvis and C. J. Wiley. I think there are quite a few players that haven't been playing competitively lately, and maybe out of stroke some, but once they figure the cloth out, and hit a gear, watch out. The one player that really intrigues me is Mark Jarvis. He came through my town a few years ago, and just blew us away with his banking (musta made 60 in a row on a tough table) and 1-pocket games. I think he said he was married to a Navy doctor and they lived in Hawaii. He was one of the 3 lesser-known players I've seen in the last few years who I thought could be a world-beater (the other 2 are Brian Groce and Will Bilbrey). Edit: add Bruce Berong to the 3. If the IPT does nothing else, it looks like it has energized a lot of talented pool players who have slipped off the radar screen lately (C. J. for sure). Gonna be another great qualifier...can't wait.

Bernie, I don't think Danny Barouty will bother trying to play in the IPT. I know him personally and I just don't see him joining. Don't get me wrong, Danny is a phenomenal straight pool player but I don't see him wanting to participate in it. I could be wrong, maybe he does want to play in the IPT I don't know, but what gave you the impression that he wants to?

Hjorlfson is a great young player. He knocked Johnny Archer out of the 2004 US Open. He was also a Junior Canadian Snooker Champion and a runner up in the 2004 Canadian Championships. Though I always found it funny, sometimes it looks as though he is moving in slow motion. But great player, great stroke, great shot. I hope he wins the qualifier especially after coming so close last time.

I don't know about Wu being very marketable in North America. He doesn't speak english so that might cause a bit of a problem. Furthermore once people get used to his age, what else is there? Michelle Wie is marketable because she is young, cute and personable. Im sure Wu is very personable too (ex. when he sat down to take a breather on the last 3 balls before winning the world championship.). Nevertheless he doesn't seem to have that charisma that will draw the publics attention and fall in love with him.

I expect him to make it into the IPT, no question about it. But I kind of see him being Stephen Hendry, where the public is more interested in someone like Alex Pagualyan, while Wu wins.

what is so interesting about Pagulayan I read his stories they publish about him in the billiard mags. If anything from the males division Archer has a more interesting personality just because he is one of the greater players developing a legacy. I just saw a replay of him like 5 or 6 years ago and he looked much healthier and more aggressive in his matches.

Have you ever seen Alex????

There are few players who are more endearing that Alex Pagualyan. Yes Archer has developed a legacy, but as far as charisma is concerned he is not the guy. On Alex's day he probably plays better than anyone in world. If you have ever seen his performance at the World Trick Shot Masters you will see how fun a personality he is.

Your not getting off that easy Maurice, we want names:) Will Michael Schmidt be participating? He would be a good darkhorse pick.

Quick question, if Wu qualifies for the tour how is he going to participate in the event at the Wynn and other events held at venues where minors are not allowed?

I expect he would have an escort.

I believe a Michigan player will gain the IPT card during the Mass event!

Are this players initials JG. I know he has expressed interest in playing in the IPT.

The player that i want to pick has the initials J.G., but he's not from Michigan.

JOSE GARCIA!!!

As smooth and fluid as they come, and more talent than words can describe!

Danny, a 14.1 superguru, is not a nine-ball speciaslist, but he's not scared of anybody whatever game he's playing. Two cases in point:

1) Just a few weeks after he won the 2003 World championship, Thorsten Hohmann came to NYC to play in the Big Apple Nine Ball Challenge at Master Billiards. Danny Barouty beat him!

2) Just a few weeks after winning the 2004 US Open, Gabe Owen came to NYC to play in the World Summit of Pool in Grand Central Station. Danny Barouty beat him!

Danny isn't scared of anybody, and can beat everybody. I don't know what to expect, but I wish him well.

Vilmos Foldes must of lost heart, or something, in the last qualifier, didn't win once, but he may get his act together this time, he's my first choice.

Wu, because of his achievements, is my second choice.

If those two fail, i'm keeping an eye on Chris Melling, and Rodolfo Luat.

I fancy anyone of these 32 "shortstops"

Antonio Lining
Rodolfo Luat
Imran Majid
Chris Melling
Karl Boyes
George Breedlove
Daryl Peach
Richard Broumpton
Christian Reimering
Robb Saez
Tony Crosby
Santos Sambajon
Thomas Engert
Michael Schmidt
Vilmos Foldes
Sam Frangie
Hiroshi Takenaka
Scott Frost
Ramil Gallego
Sandor Tot
Jose Garcia
Dave Hemmah
Daniel Wallace
Frankie Hernandez
Lee Heuwagen
Eric Hjorlison
C.J. Wiley
Cliff Joyner
Ronnie Wiseman
Warren Kiamco
Chia-Ching Wu
Jason Kirkwood

Shame only 2 will be strutting their stuff on the IPT this year! :(

I havent been to Battle Creek in awhile, nor talked with Jayme. I believe he would still shoots with a Predator, and would not be the person I was thinking about. Would be great to see him get on the IPT though, he still plays very strong.

I agree that Danny has a good shot at it and as an underdog I'd pick Jerry Tarantola. A real good player with a lot cajones and a lot of experience. I'd buy him him in the calcutta.
