Who do you think is the top 5 pool players ever in the world?

Efren Reyes
Willie Mosconi
Luther Lassiter
Earl Strickland
Johnny Archer

Other close calls:
Buddy Hall
Portland Don Watson (Surpised no one else mentioned this one)
I was told by some pros that in his prime almost all other pros wanted weight from him in 9 or 10 ball.
Mike Sigel
Nick Varner

Good input!
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

The Long-Term All-Around, Consistent Performers At ANY Game, With ANY Spot, With ANY Kinda' Bet, On ANY Kind of Table, And ANY kind of distractions, PERIOD, I'll beat your ass Award Recipients:
Willie, Buddy, Wimpy Or Effren

Too many great players out there. No 5, 10, 20 or 50 picks could do justice to all the great players that have dominated the game. These are as much my faves, as they are legit "top 5's".

It could mean dead players as well. Top 5 best pool players in the world from the good old days to now? Your opinion is what matters! Thanks.
Many Regards,
Lock n load.

You know something, Lock?...I been thinking ( which is a rare occasion)

The best in the world isn't the best 365 days a year....he just owns more
of those days than anyone else.
There are a lot of good strokes out there....many players on a given day,
or session, or game, or even just one shot...may be the best in the world.

Had a friend who ran 120 and out at 14.1....I told him that if he was playing
the best player in history....he had turned him into a spectator.

I was trapped on the 1-ball yesterday....had to manufacture an angle
off the first rail with a masse, spun four rails, hit the 1-ball and cemented
the guy on the 7-ball....a few people clapped...I picked up my cell phone
and said "Could y'all keep the noise down? Efren is on the blower, he's in
a trap and wants to know how to get out.":killingme:

Well thought out post. Their are and was a lot of great players out there! I believe credit is due to them while they are alive, not wait until they are gone. Thanks.

The bad thing about those lists is that the pool of players in different eras will vary so much. I don't think the best players 100 years ago had the competition as Nick Varner did in the 90s. I think Varner and Reyes belong in the top 5 with Hoppe and Mosconi. My personal 5th would be Sang Lee.

The OP's question was about pool. Hoppe and Sang Lee were carom-billiards champions, not pool champions.

I guess if you want to get technical, this is AZBILLIARDS so pool talk shouldn't even be allowed anymore... The moderator should delete all non billiards threads...lol.

Hey Cue,
You do not think that Buddy Hall belongs in your pick at all? He was the only man to beat Efren when he came to the USA. Buddy and Nick run together. I am asking is all. Your opinion is what matters to me. I like Nick too. I also like Johnny Archer!
Many Regards,

Kid Delicious - really? I have played him. David Matlock could give him the 6 out!!! Matlock deserves to be on the money list.

While I agree that Danny should not in this conversation and that Dave certainly could be, I think the "6 out" is a rather silly suggestion. I've played them both as well.......
