Who does an Epoxy Finish?

I'm looking for a cuemaker who does an epoxy finish for a fair price. This is not a refinish. Gale Clark makes me cues but does not have a spray booth anymore. He is only making hustlers these days but I'm a close friend and have bought lots of wood to make some customs. For the right price, I may have several projects.

Why limit yourself to an Epoxy finish? Other finishes are as nice or nicer and their are alot more people who can spray urethane auto finishes than can put on an epoxy finish. You might want to ask who puts on finishes to send you a quote on sprayed finishes as well. I do Epoxy finish but am only interested in doing the cues I build as busy as I am. A good Urethane finish is probably a little nicer anyway and almost any cuemaker on here can do it.

I agree with you Chris. I use an ultra-violet cured finish and then a Urethane finish on top. I do finishes for two other cue-makers but with the winter season coming on I don't know how much time I would have for any more work. How many cues and shafts are you talking about?

I have one cue that is almost done and 5 more to be made at the same time. The reason I wanted epoxy is that it seems more durable to chips or bubbles when you bump your cue on something,

What kind of epoxy finish have you been using? Truthfully, chipping and getting air bubbles under the epoxy is the reason I quit using it. Of coarse there are many kinds of epoxy so perhaps what I was using was inferior.

UV is just as hard if not harder.

That's what I was thinking, I had one cue, that I easily peeled, and chipped the finish off clean, without needing to sand it off, or scrape it. It started out with blisters on the delrin butt which is understandable with most finishes, as It should have not been covered anyway, but even came off the wood parts, and rest of the cue easily. It was a nice looking finish on the cue, and made stripping It easier, but if It had'nt started blistering, it would'nt of needed refinished. I guess maybe someone that's been doing It for a while may have figured out some tricks when using it, but I don't think I trust It enough to use It Myself. The stuff can be hard to buff out also. I have some I was going to use for a base, and the stuff just did'nt get hard enough for me, and rolled up quite a bit when I tried to prep it for a overfinish, and I did'nt like the color change in the cue to begin with.
I am going to try to spray that water base that's suppose to work first, and if that does'nt do the trick, I will just set up for the auto clear when we get the new shop setup, and be done with it. I have considered farming it out until the shop is done, so let me know if you get any free time. I'm only building 3-5 cues a year now, and have'nt been selling any of my experiements so far :D , but I have people that want cues, and need to get a decent finish on a few for them. I have someone that may be able to do a few for me, but need to have him do a sample cue for me to check out the work. I think I got leveling the cue out, and buffing under control now, just don't have the proper exaust here that I need to spray the auto clear where I'm at now, and don't see any since in setting up here, because we will be moving.

Thanks, Greg

Maybe you should ask Mr Clark if he would consider using an epoxy finish since no spray booth is needed. The epoxy finishes are somewhat wavy and harder to control the thickness.
