Who else makes shafts for South West cues?

Which cue maker(s) would be a best choice to make spare shafts for a South West cue besides South West Cues themselves? A cue maker that is able to match collar material and rings indistinguishable from original South West shafts and able to match shaft weight closely is strongly preferred.

I would think it would take a little phone time, but shouldnt be too hardto get one to arrive at your door.
Plus, if you want perfection, you should prob plan on sending the butt off to be matched.
Check in the cuemaker sectoon of azb, maybe you will find someone nearby?

Or just call pat diveney:smile:

Hi,

I think every good cuemaker can do it but to steer you in a direction to a guy that probably would be happy to do it I would say Mike Webb.

He probably knows all the specs of sizes, tapers etc that SW has already because he mainly concentrate on repairs etc and enjoy all the learning about other makers cues etc.

At least that is what I have picked up from talking to him over the last years. Great guy and has a ton of knowledge imo.

Mike is here btw, without the search for him I think it´s "mwebb".

Regards

Chrippa

Ps sending out the butt is probably a good idea, why not refinish it up a bit when you are at it:).

And now I just have to wait longer on my cues.....why do I speak so much........:-). Mike - you are worth the wait ;-).

I bought one a few years ago that had 8 shafts with it. The deal was that I got to pick 4 of those shafts. I chose the 2 originals of course, an OB-1(which I don't like), and a shaft that was made for the cue by Keith Josey. That Josey shaft plays very well. Jerry Franklin/Keith Josey combo package, hard to go wrong there. South West shafts are hard to beat though, especially the ones with an ivory ferrule. My answer is Josey, but I don't know how long it took to get the shaft from the time it was ordered. I just know the reason it was ordered was price differential.

Your best option is South West. Why avoid them? What are you trying to save? Money? Time? Losing use of the cue butt? If you want matching collars, these three issues are likely to be to happen no matter who builds the shafts. Original maker shafts are usually going to be more valuable at resale.

If you are intending to sell the cue, then sell as is and take the price hit on the sale. Let the new owner decide which new shafts to buy.

A major reason for owning more than one cue is to have a player while a cue is in for repair. If you decide that you really don't want to work with South West, Mike Webb would be a great choice. You might be better off posting this question in the Ask The Cuemaker section. There are other great cuemakers who post there.

I fairly confident just about any decent builder can do it. SW doesn't have super complicated ring work. If you like you can reach out to Keith Kues, I'm sure we can get you taken care of you.

best,

Justin

First, I would like to thank all who replied, it's appreciated. As for sending my Jerry Franklin South West back to them is out of the question. The reason being they did not match either the collar material nor the rings on my last set of shafts. Laurie even admitted to having a small supply of the original material left but for some reason she saw fit not to use it for my set of shafts :frown:. Anybody interested in two, only test hit, South West shafts? Maybe they'll match someone else's cue.
