Who has gone HAMB here?

I would guess that I have using the following logic.

If one were to hit a ball every second, they would hit the millionth ball on day 11. Now lets break that down a bit. I would guess that the average person hits about 2 balls per minute when playing an opponent and about 4 when practicing by themselves. At a rate of 3 balls per minute, a person would hit their millionth ball on day 231. The previous numbers don't calculate for anything other than playing pool 24/7. Now break it down into actual playing time. It wouldn't be far fetched for someone addicted to playing pool to play for 4 hours in a day. At a rate of playing 4 hours a day hitting 3 balls a minute, one would hit their millionth ball after 3 years, 9 months, 2 weeks, and 4 days.

So while I'm sure that I haven't played 4 hours every day over a 3 period, I have played longer and shorter than 4 hours on many days over the course of 23 years. Therefore, I would be willing to guess that I've hit over a million balls.

Easily, before I was 25 years old. Doesn't matter how many you've hit, it matters how many you've hit correctly.

By rough calculations, I have hit about 500,000 balls in the last 6 years, previous to that, my pool was more recreational and irregular, I sometimes didn't play for several months at a time, although I did play in a league at university. Must be over the million in my lifetime I guess...

Probably hit about 1000 in practise drills though LOL

Sounds good to me, I mostly wanted to make sure people realistically think about their numbers instead of using your pace...which seems well thought out for you.

If a guy hits 100 shots a day (much more realistic for an average Joe), it takes about 30 years to reach a million.

(333 days a year of hitting 100 shots per day = 33,333 shots per year divided into 1,000,000 = 30 years.)

500 shots a day for the very serious player, would get you there in about 6 years, assuming you don't want any kind of life to go along with that.

(at 5 shots a minute that's 500 minutes or about like a full-time job, but with 6-7 days a week of work.)

I figure that I've just reached my million shots after 50+ years of playing pool with the past 25 years done seriously and consistently. And boy are my arms tired !!!

It's a lot of shots. Anyone who got it done before they were 20 years old or so really has an advantage over the rest of us slackers.

The original idea about HAMB was to get across the concept that to be good in pool requires a lot of practice....ie...hit a million balls.

Some can hit over 2 million balls and still not be good.

HAMB..ie practice does no good without a plan on what and how to practice.

I didn't get serious about pool until I retired and I got a table. For a few years I hit 30 racks of equal offense a day and I continued to run balls until they were all gone from the table even after a miss.

I've probably hit at least a million.

500/5=100 minutes a day. Basically if you dedicate your life to it and play at a decent speed you can hamb in 1 year.

I reckon with my misspent youth I am well into my second million @38
