Who Has Run 5 Racks Or More

OK, here's a good comparison. SJM, you ran 7 racks in 9-ball and just over 90 in straight pool, so maybe the equivalent would be 8 or 9 racks of 9-ball for a 100 run in straight. What do you think? (all in all, I guess you can't make any direct comparisons)

There's no doubt that 5 pack runs in 9-ball are far more common than 100 ball runs in 14.1, just by the small sampling of players here on this forum. It's not even close.

I find it difficult to compare the two feats, as there is a huge luck factor in nine ball as far as whether you get a decent shot after the break. I even had a B player run five from the break in a row on me on. Still, I'll take a shot.

I think that if you gave me a week to run either 100 balls in straight pool or a six pack in nine ball, I'd probably like my chances better in the straight pool proposition. If I only had to run a five pack in nine ball, I think I'd prefer the nine ball proposition.

u think u see more tough shots in the 9ball 5 pack then the 100 ball run? ive done the 5 pack a few times and always had to come wit some shots. i seen some 100 ball runs and it dont seem like there are too many of them.

I HAVE I HAVE TOO. Cole.

I'm very impressed with how many 'yes I did it's' we have here, then again this board covers a large area so we certainly could have that many here. Running a 3 or 4 pack consistently is pretty impressive. 5? Well the originally question did say that they only necessarily did it once.

Let's take the pro's for example. Now I've watched a lot of pool on TV. Maybe I just happened to watch the wrong matches. But I don't remember seeing a 5 pack. Granted most of the matches are alternating break, but I would count it as a 5 pack if there was 5 in a row just on their break and I don't recall seeing that either. I'm not saying this doesn't happen. Of course it happens, but a 5 pack is great!

I posted here that I did a 5 pack in 8 ball on a bar box and I was ecstatic! I don't remember the runs shot for shot, but I will admit remembering that there were at least two incidents during those 5 tables that I got rather lucky. Position fell perfect (more perfect that I can count on), or a ball bobbled a little before falling in, etc.

How many will admit that their 5 pack involved a little luck?
In 8 ball I have ran 3 and out in a tournament in metropolis on a bar table and I did get some lucky position on some of the balls

My scale is 22 years of playing pool and seeing first hand how many times six packs occur. I am no novice to the game either, its not like I havent put in my time playing pool. Even with a fantastic break working, I personally have only seen top regional players and above execute six packs. I'll put one caveat on that say my statements exclude the bar boxes. On a 4 1/2x 9 footer, I would venture to say that it might be harder to run 6 racks of nineball (unless we are talking about something really ridiculously improbable like 4 or 5 cosmos with 9's on the break and/or dead combinations in this six pack) than it is to run 100 balls in straight pool.

As Bill Stack says on every post: JMO ICBW

I can vouch for uwate {as if he needs confirmation}...we grew up in the same pool room, traveled our own roads, saw some incredible talent and had our own battles. In my life around pool I have only witnessed several runs of 6 racks or more, its obtainable but not done on a daily basis but running a hundred balls to me is much more difficult, IMO. We have always agreed to disagree, LMFAO!!

how dare you belittle my accomplishments!! I'll have you know that I take pride in the fact that I have broke and ran before. Even if it happens 1 in maybe 100 tries. A lot of the other players in my league have never broke and ran!! So if I can't even run 5 racks in a row, who can??!!?

One of the other poster who expressed the same sentiment as you, also said he needs a 100 tries to run out even once. I am not surprised a guy who can't even run out 1 % of the time has no idea how easy it is to run out an open table.

I would wager that a large majority of the posters can't beat the nine ball ghost much less run fives...Just trying to stir it up...

Post it up!

I played Nick Varner at Hard Times in a big tournament, race to 9, on the winner's side. He won the coin flip, broke and ran 6 racks, then came up dry on the next break. I ran out, then broke and ran the next 4, to make it 6-5, him. I broke the next game, made a ball, but had to push out. He played safe, I fouled, and he ran the set out on me. I then won a few matches on the loser's side, never losing more than 3 games to any opponent. I then played Efren. I was ahead 2-1, 3-2, 5-3, 6-4, and 7-5. Then, I had a chance to get on the hill with a combo on the 9 but I rushed it and missed. Then it was 7-7. I had a chance to get out once again but I got a funny angle on the 5 ball, too straight, and had to force the CB over to the side rail and back across to get straight in on the 6 to the same corner. I missed the 5, hit it too hard with the way I was trying to get as much angle out of it as I could. He made the 5, then somehow missed the 6, but he left the 6 on the tit in the corner pocket with the 7 on the rail, so I'd have to use extreme inside english to get position for the 7 because the 8 was in a spot that I could possibly get hooked. So, I studied the table, thinking I could maybe go 3 rails to get position on the 7 with the CB heading toward the side pocket. I chose to use inside english, but I hit it too slow and the squirt got me as I hit the 6 too full and hung it in the corner. Efren then ran out and broke and ran the next for the win. I had this match on video but over the years it has been misplaced. I finished 4th, behind Varner (1st) Buddy Hall and Efren. This was a field of champions, Archer, Strickland, Davenport, Ernesto, Morro, Francisco Galindo, and quite a few more that I can't think of right now. Anyway, during this tournament, except for the 2 matches I lost, I never lost more than 3 games to anyone. I finished one match in less than 30 minutes, winning 9-0, with my opponent getting to the table maybe 3 times. I don't know how many racks I ran throughout this tournament but I would guess I had several 5's and 6's. It was also during this tournament that I ran the 7 pack in a money match against a guy named Chico, not sure of his last name though. Oh well, those days are long behind me but they sure seem like it was yesterday. Peace, John.

I ran 9 and out in a tourney in Columbus, Oh. in a race to 9 on Derick Pogerski and then opened the set with Luat and ran the first two with no down time between sets.
So it was 11 racks in a row........................

It doesn't count...nobody saw it on TV. :D

Now that's the difference between a pro and other decent players on here that have gotten 5's and 6's which some seem to doubt....it's double the number!! That's some damn sporty shooting!

How much have you worked at 14.1 in your career and what's your high run whether in competition if you've played a 14.1 tournament, OR, in practice?

7 racks 9-ball 3 times, 88 balls straight pool on very old slow nap cloth.

I've beaten the 10-ball ghost many times 10-ahead sets. Beat 11-ball one long set. Working on winning long sets of 12-ball ghost. I know another player who has beaten the 12-ball ghost that is not a top ranked player although he has been mentioned here. I'm sure many of the top guys can do this or better, but not sure if they want everybody to know that.

Who beats the 9-ball, 10,11,12,13,14,15 ball ghosts? I heard Andam uses two racks of balls to practice. Anybody beat the 30-ball ghost here????

I have never even run asingle rack in my life.

I admit, I do need some practice.

Will anybody give the 7,8 the break and play me some cheap for $5 per game so I can get some good experience?
