If your looking for pure power Bustamante is a great choice, although his control of the CB can be poor at times. The best overall break, my choices would be Chia-Ching Wu and Johnny Archer, great power along with control of whitey.

Since you are limiting it to US players I am going with Larry Nevel. If you were saying worldwide, I would kill for Bustamante's break.

I happened to be discussing this with a former playing partner of mine (one of the best players that ever lived). The subject being who had the best 9-ball break for ahead-set (or long set) GAMBLING matches (where the more powerful the break, the more balls made, the more the advantage; control also super-important).

I was told that you don't want to go up against Bustamante, Morris, or Breedlove.

Seeing as how you're limiting it to guys in the US only, I'd have to say either Larry Nevel or Charlie Bryant. Then again, if you're dealing with a Sardo tightracks, Corey Deuel's soft break pockets the side ball in the side pocket every time and leaves a good spread with the cue ball in the middle of the table.

Being in Europe, I've never had the chance to whatch it in person, but I like Shannon Daulton's power break (just whatched on WPC videos). Then Yang Ching Shun, Wu and Bustamante.

Best Break???

I know Nevel from back in Wisconsin days, he has a pretty good break, but flat out speed and control... That Charlie Williams mutha freakkn Smashes the rack!! He got the Bruce Lee type "HAASSAN CHOP!!" action going on.
:p

1. Who has the most powerful break, i.e. the fastest speed recorded by a radar gun.

2. Who has the best control on the cue ball while breaking really hard?

For consistent power with control, I'd have to say Johnny Archer is the best I've seen. Strickland before that. Sigel before that.

Ralf Souquet was hitting them better than I've seen at the Derby City Classic 9-ball event. In the finals, his cueball didn't hit a cushion one time. And he was hitting them pretty hard.

I like Ralf's break, when he's hitting em good.

I remember watching Ralf's break in the finals of the BCA Open (2003 or 2004) against Busta. He was drilling the rack and parking the CB dead in the middle of the table. Although it was alternate break, I seem to remember Ralf running out over half his breaks too.

Living out here in Colorado I've never had the chance to see any of these guys live. I did see Cory Duel using a soft break on TV that Really opened my eyes. Very Impressive!!
