my first choice would be a tye between nick van den berg and niels feijns of the netherlands. two magnificent cueiests, whom there time has come. nick van den berg has the most promise out of all future players, i believe. a kid genius, a boy wonder if you will. not only can he think on his feet, but he can execute with the best of them. niels feijns holds the record for most racks ever run in 9-ball,----- 15 racks! and is a hell of a nice guy. one of these two should win in 2004. next, if one of those two dutch players do not win, i wish that steve davis of england would. a legend of snooker, his 9-ball is among the best in the world. need proof? check out his story book come back against efren reyes in the 2000 world 9-ball championship. perfect play, by steve davis. knowledgable, kind, and open minded davis, deserves a win, and being crowned 9-ball champion of the world. now, if you doesn't win, i'd like to see ralf souquet of germany win it. ralf is my favorite male player now, and he has what it takes, and he is a very nice guy, which is important in the world of pool. and finally, if none of those guys win, i'd like to see francisco bustamante of germany win it. he is a wizard of the cue, and deserves a win, and is a hell of a nice bloke.

As filipino as i am, naturally i would like to see a filipino to win the WPC.
And foremost for that is Bustamante, second would be efren, or
Marlon Manalo, or Warren Kiamco, or the whacky and very active
Alex Pagulayan (though he carries a Canadian flag, he remains a
filipino by birth and blood). But if not a filipino i would like
to see Chin Shun Yang wins the WPC.
As for "bustamante of Germany" i think he only based there
but he will not carry the flag of germany definitely. ;)

Addtionally WPC would not be held i heard in Cardiff
this year, but in Taiwan (or Chinese Taipei) ?

world pool 2004 in taiwan?

CebuanoNinoy, is this great or what at least a lot of filipinos and aspiring players in asia will have a greater chance of attending the qualifying rounds. at least its minus the hassle of thinking what to do to get a visa just to play in cardiff. in taiwan everybody has a big shot at chance because its 9 ball and its game everybody knows even the greater player can be defeated. this is a great way of opening doors for unknown and underrated players in asia. players who want to step up but is denied of their goals because of the visas needed to attend such events. again this is one subject pool players and aspirants need also to consider. the ways on how to move around the world searching for matches that would improve one's game without being denied of the chance. a lot would want to go and are very capable skillwise but i guess before they know it the embassy is denying them their visas. :(

Yap you hit the nail right on its head.
In our country there are many good players and
unless they have enough money or someone would
sponsor them, their feats would be for filipino eyes only,
take the case of Philippine 9 ball open right now held
here in the philippines which open for everybody,
i saw a lot of good players, that could give others a run for
their money even on international level. But probably
for lack of money can't. And most of them are still quiet young.
Or even take a case for efren he is making waves even during the
early 70's but he never get abroad not until someone sponsor him
to go to japan (which unfortunately manager betrayed him for
his winnings) and then eventually to red houston open on 1985,
which very historic as far as i am concern for the efren's history
and probably the pool world in the US.

It is time for Alex to win. Last year he lost to a BUM in the final. A BUM I tell you. ;)

And Alex is NOT a filipino. He's CANADIAN! :) ha ha ha. Don't flame me. I'm kidding.

I'd like to see Corey win too. Ever since I saw those two terrors on the road together when they were too young to play the pro events, I figured they'd be world champions. Could you imagine running into those two? You go from the frying pan to the fire.

cheers,

Last year I was pullin for Alex to win the whole thing. Cause i like that guy, And he is great for the sport, and very skilled.I'll still pull for him this year .Fillpino or not the kid plays jam jump..
And Cory he had his time to shine and lost it .Then he went on tv and said the other players were afraid of him and his break. O well that went all down hill from there..But to win the WPC i don't think so..
But good luck to for the try...

I would definitely like to see Alex win it after what happened last year, this guy really is gonna be the next Efren if he continues to improve. Silencer made a good point when he said that El Nino and Neils have promising futures, it would be nice to see them compete a little more on the international scene though.

Yep, it is Asia for this year, Philippines or Taiwan. Looking more likely to be Taiwan.

Yes, it will be held in Taiwan this year.

My fav is Efren and it would always be satisfying to see him win, but who I would really like to see win is Earl Strickland just to piss off those Brits.

I don't care if he wins. It's not just Brits who don't like him anyway.
Yeah, I know that, but the Brits are the ones I'd like to see get there panties in a knot. However, after reading other posts, if it isn't going to actually be in England I don't care if he wins either.

Yeah, I'm always rooting for Earl, but I would also
love to see Rodney Morris win it. I don't think that
a lot of people realize just how good Morris really is.
It would be nice to see him get his due.

WPC Qualifiers?

Does anyone know if they will be holding the WPC qualifiers in Asia shortly before the main comp starts? I email Doug but didn't get a reply? I only ask because I notice that there are two WPC qualifiers in the uk and I'm thinking he might be holding these instead of qualifiers before the main event in Asia.

I'm trying to book my flights and I have to say giving that its only a few months away the lack of info on the world championship webiste is ver dissapointing :-(

Also, anyone got anything good to say about the sands open in reno in June or the Joss finals - I'm hoping to visit these events if the WPC doesnt happen?

Cheers

Craig

Actually, since the winner of the WPC gets an automatic entry into the mosconi cup (assuming they are European or American), I would like to see the Earthquake win it. He has been playing well enough recently to do so, and I would LOVE to see him in action at the mosconi. Imagine him and Morris tag-teaming against Mika and Nick. Would be absolutely sensational.
