Who Is Going

Hmmm....

I've been debating on going all year, but the money isn't falling in my lap like I had hoped it would. LOL I'd still like to go, but without anyone here knowing me or my skills or background personally, I don't see it happening. Everyone here does know Jimmy and Rude though, so I'd say I'm a definite longshot at best. Proven skills versus the unknown underdog? How would you vote?

Doug, read this excerpt taken from a recent interview of a great player :

"It was the first. There was no pool in those days. There were not any tournaments, no tour or anything. It was just all about gambling in those days. Cochran's was a beautiful 40-table billiard room upstairs in San Francisco. I walked in there, a young guy from Oklahoma, and I thought I was at the Taj Mahal or something. It was played on 5x10 pool tables. There was Eddie Taylor, Danny Jones, Luther Lassiter and all the greats there for the tournament. I didn't want to play, but the owner, Welker Cochran's son Dick Cochran, said 'No, you're playing in this tournament, and whatever you win you get to keep it.' I won the tournament undefeated. Like I said, I didn't really realize what kind of player I was until then. Right then I made up my mind that I was ready to go play anybody."

Here is the cue. Never hit a ball. Brand new 2000 Espiritu.

Great lookin' cue Mr. Purdy. If it's a raffle how do I get tickets? If it's an auction how do I bid? Will also send a donation.

Later, Pel

If Jimmy M. and Rude Dog are so sure they are the two who will be voted to go to the Open, then why is everyone else beating around the bush and heehawing.

Hey, I never said with any sort of certainty that I was going to be the one picked. I've said all along that there are other good players on here who would be good choices to send. If I'm the one picked, I'll definitely go. If not, I'll still pitch in. I'd like to see this happen whether it's me or not. If it does happen, there is a good chance it'll happen again. If I'm not the guy picked this time, maybe I'd be the guy picked next time ... or the time after, who knows.

I'd still be willing to go If chosen. But there seems to be a lot more people who know how Jimmy plays so when the poll starts I'll vote for him. I still plan on going to the Open and sweating his matches for at least a couple of days. Hope I get to meet some of you there. Sam

The folks who actually send money to the Purdman need to let him know who they are voting for. That is the "poll" we should use.

Money talks and .....

I need the names/e-mail addresses of the two going. Also, I need the closest airport to them that has AA as a carrier (or just give me their locations and I can find that info out). The location of the tournament will be around norfolk VA, correct? Once I have all this info, and the dates each competitior will be leaving their home airport and the VA airport, I will start the process of trying to get them free airfare.

I mailed my money to Donald P. today.... Now, everyone else get off your sofa and do the same.. imo (Yeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !)

I won't be home until Wednesday, but I'll mail a check then. My vote is for Satman. Hall of Fame is kind of above average - good enough for me.

Maybe next year the criteria should be pool fanatacism (after all, anyone with $500 can enter, they must not just want good players). Send someone who can provide entertaining reports - sort of a "fanatics-eye-view" of the tournament from the inside.

When I get home Wednesday, I will post all donations. The nominations are yet to be done. Everybody who would like to be in, nominate yourself. We will vote later. The cue will go to who will bid the most for it. Maybe we will put it up for ten days. It's up to us to decide how to go about things. Like I said before, this is our thing and we will decide how to go about it, not me. Blud just said put him down for $50. Hey now!!!!

The Trip
We went to a rodeo last night and a dance after. Gourged on Mexican food and drank some beers.

Hey Purdman,
How much of that $50 spent part of its previous life in your pockets. We need some one-pocket action updates. Are you schooling Blud or is he donating your money?????

Blud vs Don P.

Well, to tell it like it is, the first night we played about even up. I did nail em 8 zip and 8 / 1 a couple of times. The next evening things were differant. The old fart kept running 8 and out on me. Old shit couldn't miss a ball. If I won a game, I don't remember. I was playing on 10 beers and enough ribs and chicken to kill the average human being. All in all, the rodeo, barbeque, cold beer, swimming in the Frio river and one hole with Blud has made for quite an experience. Heading for San Antonio at 12 pm. Looking forward to getting home Wednesday though. Nothing like your own bed!!!!!

Purdman,
Seriously, if you had just had one more beer you would have whipped him (at least that's what I always think).

Hey Willie,

we did have a great time. He beat me 10 to zip the last game.[ wouldn't give me a re-match] ........Me winning about 93% of the games.HEE HEEEEEE, just had to say that don.........you know, dig a little.....

When we started keeping score, we wound up 12 to 1, my favor. He's a good sport. He played better this year, than two years ago, when he was here.
Don's a good sport.....

All in all it was good times for me, Don, Susan and Janice.Plenty ribs, chicken, sausage, and cold beer.

Janice took them to San Antonio, yesterday. They should be home some times wed. I am sure we will hear from him soon.

Big IF here, but if I was chosen to go, I´d be leaving from Las Vegas because it´s only 120 miles from my house. My email is sportybuckfiftyfive2000 at yahoo.com. (sorry, I´m on a spanish computer, can´t find the at sign) Thanks.

If i am chosen, I'll probably drive and eliminate the airfare. It's about 11-12 hours. Sam

It is nearly unanimous that everyone wants to send these two, so why even ask "who should we send?" Just cut to the chase, collect the money, have your little straw poll about who you want to go (doesn't matter, we know who's getting the votes), and send'em. Too much BS'ing...

Doug
Doug, if you want to go, then put your name in the hat and go. I don´t see anyone saying that Jimmy and I are going for sure. I just happened to be one of the guys mentioned so far and everyone ran with it. But whoever it is that does get chosen to go, even if it was you, I´d be happy. I just feel like you´re a little pissed off about the whole thing because nobody has mentioned you, except you. If this thing causes problems for anyone, then my name can be taken out of the mix. I just like to play pool and going to the Open on a free trip is the best thing that could possibly happen for me right now, as far as pool goes. If not, I won´t be losing any sleep over it.

Rude Dog, I feel as you do and I think Jimmy feels the same way. Our best wishes will go with those chosen and no matter how they do, They can still come back with their head held high, as we know they will do the best they can to represent the entire board in a professional manner. As far as splitting a room, i wouldn't have a problem splitting with anyone else who is chosen. Everyone mentioned so far has had a lot of positive info shared about their character. Best of luck to all. Sam
