Who is Karl Boyes?

The Billiard Digest report said they were high spirited. As far as calling them a bunch of nits.....how about you flying over to play these nits in the UK on the 7 footers? I am sure between us we can raise enough green to make it worth your while.
 
How bout, as I earlier stated, put together a team of Filipino champions to play 5 days, 5,000 miles from their homeland for $5000. Oh wait, that is what these english champions did. What would be the purpose in that? To show they are nits. If you aren't competing at the top of your skill level then you are a nit. Enough said. Lee Kendall was the most vocal of them all & I did ask him why they even bother to come over for the BCA. He stated is was "just a holiday for them."

I don't care what the english players say or what you think they would say. I was there & know how they acted. If I knew Jason Kirkwood better, I would have been over there as he got taunted on every ball. I was glad to see Jason try to give it back to them as he won games, but he was just one against 7-9 of these english players. He couldn't match their experience and rudeness gained by attending english soccer matches. No wonder why Earl did a little jig as the Americans beat the english in the Mosconi cup. I am sure he has experienced it as well.

I can't comment on the finals as I wasn't there but I have heard several versions of the events you describe from people who saw it. The fact that these vary so much says a lot IMO. I will say however that EVERY year I have played in the BCA/VNEA I have had problems with local players trying to cheat in any and every way possible, and the VAST majority of TEAMS are VERY vocal.

I don't really get your point about flying all the way to vegas for $5,000? I mean its usually about $10k for the singles, $5k for the team, plus all the mini's and action. Also there's probably only a few hundred dollars difference between flying from the NYC or the UK but still thousands of Americans make the trip every year, as many have said its more of a pool holiday. To be honest the bar box events are better value than the BCA Pro event (whats the winner get for that?) and pros fly in for that from all around the world, are they nits too :confused: )

It wouldn't suprise me, I won almost 5k the year before in the 3 weeks in vegas, its certainly possible to pay for the trip. I think Dareen played a few money matches too, and probably some of the others did? IMO the BCA Open is the mecca of all pool tournaments, every player should experience it at least once.
 
Forget $14,000....I just got a message off Andy Richardson.....as he wrote it....

'We won over $30,000, We came in 1,2 and 3 in the Masters where the only players to beat me, Mick (Hill) and Karl (Boyes) were each other. 1st in the Grand Masters, second in another and Chris Melling came 9th in the Masters. Won nearly every flyer we played in and came second in the team'.

A little more than $7000 and I think $30K would have covered their expenses to Vegas.............AND THEN SOME:D :D :D
 
If the BCA lets them in then they deserve everything they get. There are referees standing around the matches who will certainly reprimand unsportsmanlike behavior if alerted to it and asked to officiate.

What was Jason Kirkwood doing at the BCA tournament? How about Jesse Bowman? You can't fault the English for sending their best players to the party when everyone else is doing the same.

As a matter of fact there are probably tons of Filipinos who qualify to play in the BCA Tournament. Go there and round you up some of them, arrange for their visas, lodging, transport and so on. Then send them up against the American superteams.

I would BET HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY that a lot of the US Super Teams at BCA and VNEA never spent a league season together in their life. It's all semi-pros at that level anyway.

Quit crying - your team won the trophy and theirs took home the cash. it's a grown up world.

John, youre spot on (even though you can't draw the cb without jacking up :p ). I think if you look at the past winners list of the bar box events youll see names like Jeremy Jones, Gabe Owen, etc etc and NOT many years ago either. The BCA know full well about what level Appleton, Hill etc play at and have never let them play in the open event as far as Im aware theyve always been thrown in the masters. The Masters is full of pro level players. I still don't get why they are "nits" for playing in this event when pro's fly all around the world (inc filipinos) to play in pro events for much less cash? :confused:

or SVB, or Jessie, and they play it every year, SVB has won the VNEA Masters 3 years in a row.

I think Jesse Bowman is considered the best bartable player in the USA. I'd really have to give the edge to Bowman but not by much. Kirkwood has put in the road time the last few years. Bowman just totally grew up on bar tables and sometimes it seems as though he can do anything he wants to on one.
