Who Is The Best 8 Ball Player?

Meaning, I normally hate 8 ball because the rules are as loose as grandpa's worn out sock.

Serious play...World Standardized rules? I'm thinking Appleton...He was pretty good at British style 8 ball at one time.

If I were a World Class player of most games (like Shane), I think today I'd fear Melling more than most in 8 ball. Too bad we don't see more coverage of 8 ball at the World Class level, we'd probably have better informed opinions. Probably the best 8 ball match I've ever seen is Bustamante v. Efren...absolutely the finest example of top notch 8 ball that few have ever seen, let alone played. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsCLcuLXlEM
I recommend you turn down the sound if you don't want to hear Anigoni and Icardona snipe at each other through the whole commentary...although Billy gives a great analysis throughout. ;)

Shane, Appleton, Souquet, Hohmann, Peach, Boyes, Feijen.

And i am very very sure about these names.
Each of em are amazing 8ball players.

There are a lot of great players that are not famous.

I am sure that the topic-opener was talking about known professionals. I could name also guys, where nobody would think about.

last month played an 8ball set with a guy, who s don t practicing anymore since 2-3 years. Haven t lost a single match in german league. I won the lag- ran 2 BnR and then i was allowed to rack up. 2-7 in one inning. Following a 4:7 in 3 innings......-but i am sure he just wanted to know about well known professionals.
I would say that 8ball game is special. And Souquet, HOhmann, Jentsch and many more from germany are really excellent 8ball players. And the english guys are well known for their 8ball abilities.

I would have to say Shane Van Boening I have seen him play a lot of 8 ball he is unreal his break is just way to dominate for anyone to fade but I believe it was 5 years ago at the Derby Cliff Joyner stuck it to Shane playing big table 8 ball 5 years ago Cliff was with out a doubt the best 8 ball player i know everyone prob wont agree but he is a monster he moves his rock so unbelievabley good i never saw him out of line once the whole time they played.

Do they still have a world 8ball championship? Correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but didn't Yang Ching Shun win it last year?

I have heard that Shane's best game is 8-ball.

To be more specific... I heard it was last pocket barbox 8ball.

Based on Tourney Wins... the IPT was 8ball... with decent rules and tough equipment and a tough field. From the three tournaments the winners there were Thorsten Hohmann, Efren Reyes, Marlon Manalo if memory servers me right.

During that same time (2006ish), the Pro event at the Billiards Expo was 8ball also and Dennis Hatch won that.

Marlon Manalo. His run of 18 or 17 straight match victories at the IPT was an amazing feat. It was a display of skills and tactics.

How weird that no one has mentioned Alex Pagulayan...

He just recently won the Accu-Stats Make it Happen 8-Ball Invitational against most of the players that have been mentioned as the best...

On 10-foot tables...

I'm not betting against Alex...

Close, he personally has told me it was barbox 8 ball but never mentioned anything about last pocket. With someone of his ability last pocket is just a joke. As I understand it, he has a worldwide offer with NOBOBY barred to play anybody for any amount some barbox 8 ball. It has been quite some time since anybody has taken him up on it too. I would have to put my bid in for Efren on a big table. There is a reason he won 2 of the IPT events in convincing fashion.

Talking about barboxes let's add a couple more names in the mix that deserve to be there. Glenn Atwell, Tony Piazza, Mark Haddad, Jesse Bowman, Stan Tourengeou(sp) and a few others. Or basically take the top 10 from 4 bears and those could all make a play at being in this list. Speaking of women, it would be extremely hard not to put Bonnie Plowman at the top of any list of best women barbox players. Multi time Canadian womens champion and has taken home 1st in 8 ball and 9 ball in Vegas VNEA championships more times than I can count. Nicole Keeney would be right there also, defending champion at the music city open and seems to always be right there around the top notches at any tournament.

Right now it has to be Shane. keep in mind big difference between BB 8ball, and Big table 8 ball. To be perfectly honest, 8 ball in general is a equalizer game. A good to average player will win at 8 ball over a great player more often than any other game.

Still would have to vote Shane. That was his bread and butter for A LOT of years, and no body wants that action.
