when in virginia for the tournament that Brady Behrman put on a few years ago i watched Corey Duell playing Leonardo Andam some rotation, race to 3 for some bananas. Efren was sitting there and laughing. when i asked him why he said that Corey had no chance because Leonardo Andam was one of the best rotation players he knew and was willing to back it up with some side bananas if anybody cared to bet... that convinced me. So my pick would be Leonardo Andam. By the way. Andam beat corey 3/1......mike

Efren told me this story.
When Andam was living in the south of the Philippines, he was offered to go down there to play Andam. He was supposed to get a small spot. He declined to go down there.
They played in Manila and he beat Andam. He had to spot Andam after that, 71-49. Efren still won. Later on Andam got better and beat Efren at 63-57 spot.
They played again and Efren said the last time he beat Andam was on 63-57 spot.
Andam did beat Busta on rotation.

Andam is known here as the Efren of the South. When he first came to Luzon (major northern island of the Philippines where Manila is) he posed as a balut (duck embryo) vendor and butchered every province's gambling
poolhall. The only way that his cover got blown was when a Baguio (Nothern resort city) road player picked up on how he called on a coin flip. He said "hari" instead of the usual "tao" here in Luzon.

I'd be willing to bet a few sandbags he's Filipino! Feijen has beat Efren playing rotation for some low stakes but Feijen definitely isn't close to being one of the best, Orcullo and Alcano play great rotation as well.

this is a stupid question but, how do u play rotation? do you just rack 15 balls and play like nine ball with the 15 being money? im very ignorant when it comes to this game. how does the point system work?

You shoot in rotation and every ball made counts for its face value (i.e. the one ball is worth one point). Whoever makes 61 points wins the game (there are a total of 120 points on the table). Obviously, players will try to make combos and billiards from the smaller balls onto the bigger balls and pile up points.

Race to 61 points. The number of the balls equal their points. Lowest numbered balls must be hit first. Combos/caroms are allowed.
Foul is ball in hand but the Filipinos do not play ball in hand rules.
Shoot as it lays or spot the scratched ball and shoot from the kitchen.

Toughest game in pool? I've seen Luat and Corey play Filipino rules at the DCC a couple of years back.

so do you just rack 15 balls with the 1 in front and fifteen in the middle?

I actually just picked up the BCA rule book and they say nothing of the sort. Incoming player may accept balls in position after a foul or require the offending player to shoot again. If the CB is jumped off the table or after a scratch, incoming player has ball in hand in the kitchen, lowest numbered ball may be spotted at his request if behind the head string. Even in the above situation, incoming player may request offender to shoot again.

Sidenotes:
a) 3 consecutive fouls is loss of game like in 9 ball;
b) only two safeties per player allowed by driving the same OB to the same cushion (in 14.1 it's 3);
c) in case of a 60-60 tie, the player who pocketed the last OB legally wins the game.
d) open break is required;
e) a ball must be pocketed or driven to a cushion like all games (other than snooker, that is);
f) all jumped or illegally pocketed balls spot;

Fascinating! why would Filipinos want to play anything else? Well, maybe straight pool and one pocket are on a par in complexity level.

1
13 14
12 15 11
7 10 9 8
3 4 6 5 2

balls at opposite ends in the same row may be switched for example 7 for the 8 or 4 for the 5.

Is it call ball or slop?

and where do they keep score? is it in their head. I can see the sharks starting fights over the score.

No need to call a ball. I started a separate thread on how to keep score. Apparently, you simply separate your balls after you innings, as in one pocket.

In Filipino rules, after your opponent commits a foul, do you have the option of letting your opponent shoot again? I'm assuming this is so, since there are situations where ball in hand in the kitchen or shooting as it lays is a total disadvantage to you if your opponent fouls.

What exactly does "driving the same OB to the same cushion" mean? You need have the OB hit a particular cushion for it to be a safe? What do you mean by "same cushion"? Maybe I'm just misunderstanding. Please clarify...thanks.

I saw Efren run a five pack in rotation a couple of years ago warming before a match with Bustamante

It is well know that Efren's high run is 4 racks, not 5. You did not see 5, it never happened. Only one other player has ran 4 racks and he is an American. You see when people tell stories, the fish grows, if you keep telling your story long enough, he will have ran 50 racks, that is how it goes.
