Women's US Open 9-Ball: First Two Semifinalists Determined!
June 18, 2011 · By admin · No Comments
P&B instructor Charlie Williams, aka the Korean Dragon, can be proud of his coaching skills: Both of his Dragon Promotions players, Allison Fisher and newcomer Erica Park from Korea (pictured at left), have advanced to the semifinals of the US Open 9-Ball Championships at the River Spirit Casino & Event Center in Tulsa. The bad news: they play each other at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. The good news: one will be in the finals!

In the first quarter-final of the day, Erica Park faced off against USA's own Jeanette Lee. In a tight match that saw neither player pull more than one game away from the other, Park defeated Jeanette Lee 7-6!

In the next quarter-final, it was a battle of the Fishers; Allison (pictured right) took on Kelly in another heated battle. Allison quickly pulled ahead to a 3-1 lead before Kelly answered with four straight games to lead 5-3. Then Allison pulled out all the stops to win four straight of her own, breaking and running the final rack to win the match 7-5.

Two quarter-final matchups remain to be played today; defending champion Ga Young Kim vs. USA's Vivian Villarreal, and USA's Monica Webb vs. #1 ranked Jasmin Ouschan of Austria.

Stay tuned... (Ongoing bracket scoring can be found at http://www.wpba.com/images/stories/brackets/2011usopen.pdf

Hey there,

To answer your question, she isn't really as obscure and out of nowhere as you think. She is a Korean girl that has played in many overseas events. She is new to the tour though and just plays very good pool. Charlie Williams is her coach and if you need testimony to his coaching, well..........just look at Yu Ram Cha. He gets a swell head but it's just fortunate for him that these girls he coaches are already oozing with talent and ability. Anyway, I suppose that's about it.

Oh yeah, by the way, she beat Karen Corr 9-7 to advance to the televised quarterfinals after midnight on Friday.

Yu Ram Cha was a champion in Korea before CW ever met her. She also had an American coach here in the US (Stan Suffert I think) before Charlie started to coach her. Erica Park was a top player in Korea before coming to the states. I'm sure CW is a good coach but let's get real here. Both women were very good before they ever met CW. How has CW done coaching Shanelle Loraine? Johnnyt

Thanks guys for the info. I did some researching too. Erica Park started getting coached by CW in March finished 13th at Valley Forge womens amateurs. Then 13th again at BCA Masters womens Amateurs in May. Then leap frogged to 3rd at WPBA Pro womens US Open by June! Not sure what CW is feeding these girls but its working

and he's coaching Allison Fisher ???

Erica Park

On a side note . . . . . . .

CW tried to get (Eun Ji Park) aka Erica Park entered into the womens OPEN event at our BCAPL Nationals. The open entry fee was smaller and the prize fund much higher (due to many more entries). She ended up getting 9-12 for $175. 1st place in the open division was $5,000.

We did not appreciate that, since she was not even close to an open player - and he knew it!

It is frustrating when so many try to 'take advantage' of the system.

(Our pool detectives saved us this time. It is tough keeping pool players/backers honest!!) Thanks Honey!
