Who Likes there rings in their custom cues to match??

I thought that I would start a thread about rings in custom cue's. I like all my rings to match a A,B,C,D,E,F locations shaft collars joint collars above and below the wrap. What do you guys and colecters out there think?????

Skip W's Ring Don't Alway Match, but his Cues is Pretty.....

If you are looking at traditional cues they hardly ever match. In fact alot of times you might get a fancy ring above the wrap and thats that. Look at Fast and Loose's new Tascarella where he did fancy rings and left plain silver rings at the joint, ala Bushka. Its not uncommon for the joint ring to not match rings above the wrap and in the butt sleeve.

"A" - Shaft joint ring
"B" - Butt Joint ring
"C" - A-Joint ring/above wrap ring
"D" - Below wrap ring
"E" - Above butt cap ring.

Now just where in the hell would an "F" ring be?
I really can't think of a place to put it :p

Thanks,

Jon

In Southwest style cues with the sectioned butt sleeve there's often an extra ring.

Not usually :p
Most of the time there are stacked veneer rings above the signature SW band.

But I've seen some with the extra ring.
But i don't think that we should all add a new letter to the "Ring Identification Lettering System" (:p) just because of SW :D

Thanks, :p

Is not a stacked veneer ring still a ring?! When refering to the stacked veneer ring on my southwest styled skip I've used the A-F nomenclature before...lol.

Yes, it is a ring, but it doesn't need or deserve a letter :p
How about we just call those rings "extra rings in the butt sleeve".
That would make me happy! :p

:D

P.S. I'm not really a big fan of burl, but your burl/ebony skip is stunning.

I am on the fence on this subject... I am having a custom James White made and the rings in the C D and E positions are going to be the custom design I made... A B rings are going to be a basic standard wood ring style of James choosing to match the rest of the cue, but not the same as the CDE positions...

I have ivory diamonds in the other 3 ring locations and it woulda cost me like $400 more to have it repeated around the joint...

I have seen other cues he has done where the AB rings do not match the CDE and I think it looked nice.

Example below...

I agree that it's hard to not go with the traditional A-E scheme! From now on I'll refer to the odd ring as the stacked veneer ring segregating the sectioned butt sleeve...lol.

Thanks for the compliment on my Skip Jon! I have to say I was a bit nervous about how it would come out. I'd never seen a cue with the veneer combination I ordered but I was very pleased when I got the cue and think that it came out great! Skip did a bang-up job for sure.

If they match they should line up from A to E. Skip does a good job with this. Not too many cuemakers do this. I don't know why they don't but to me it shows craftsmanship.
