Who made the first joint protectors?

I haven’t been around that long 1985. I don’t remember anyone using JP’s then. Aprons I remember. I’d guess late 80’s was the first time I recall seeing them. None of my old cues have JP’s that are original. Not one

No ideal when they started and I've not ever needed them but man have I seen some beautiful ones. Tony Layne here in Ohio makes some of the most elaborate and beautiful sets I've ever seen

First time I remember them was about 1993- 1995 when a friend got a new Schon. Not sure if he paid for them, I thought hey were included For some reason.
