who makes fancy custom sneaky's?

Well i just ordered a fancy bacote bob frey, and really looking forward to it.
black phenolic and black leather wrap to contrast with the light coloured bacote is what im looking for. i really like contrasts.

if he made his sp's in olive i would have chosen that, but now at least i know why noone makes them in olivewood.

thx for all the responses. :)
maybe i should check out some local (eurpean hardwoords).. might find a hardwood that isn't often used , ship it to a cuemaker and make a sp out of it. im just sure there must be many other woods that arent used often as they are european.

from my experience in antique european cue's, i know they use woods that i haven't seen in cue's from the states.

Be sure to post some pics of your Frey when its done.

Hey Solly,

I'm glad you finally decided to get a Frey, you won't regret it!
I have not found a cue that suits me better for the money yet.

I am a bit puzzled about the people saying Olivewood is light,
I have two pieces of (european) Olivewood which I hope to have made into a cue one day,
they may be many things but light isn't one of them. Heck, they SINK.
Here's a pic of the two pieces I have:

Enjoy the Frey! I'm having a "custom" Bocoto sneaky made right now too,
mine will take about a month, but I have in-progress pics:

I gave them a real challenge though, I found this picture on the web, and asked if they could find
a piece of Bocoto like the top Sneaky in the picture and splice it to a piece of Birds-Eye like the bottom sneaky in the picture.
If it turns out anywhere close it should be a beauty. Here's the pic I found:

dave, im curious to see how the cue will be , once finished using those pieces of olivewood.

density is something different then stability i think. the pieces can sink in water but thats doesnt mean they are wrap resistent. BUT, im no expert AT all :) i just love the wood.

well im glad i chose for frey too. im sorry i didnt buy yours, but for the small extra $ i'd prefere to have it exactly as i wanted. my 30st bday present couldnt be a used item :) it had to be new. i hope bob will send me some in progress pictures too. i always love it when they do that.

Brent hartman even sends me some video's of him turning the cue. thats COOL!!! really involves you in the proces of cuebuilding. i think with the technology available, more should do this. hell, if i ever make cue's, ill be posting a webcam in the room!! THAT would be cool.

once my downpayment done, mine should be finished in about 3 weeks. Bob seems to be doing greath leather wraps, so im really looking forward how it will look, as there is exactly: 1 picture on the internet with a frey sp with a leather wrap...

ill make sure to post all the pictures, AND my pooltable too.

PS : EDIT

how about amboya burl? is it a good idea to make an amboya burl sp?
i mean there are SO many woods that are nice, but u always have to choose in between; ebony, coco, bacote, purple and usually THATS it.

Tucker: how about these woods?
kingwood, amboya burl, wenge, paduak, elm.... ALL are so beautifull...
link to 100's woodtypes

what are the technical things i need to check for a wood to be good?
hardness? wich hardness am i looking for?
stability? wich klass?
could u give some general short guide (on what to look at specifications of wood, when choosing a wood)

ps i found the wood used alot in europe in old 3c cussions, its applewood :D

mm to bad i lost my 3ds file of a cue, or i would render a amboya burl and a olivewood sneaky, just to see how it would look :D

hi,

im starting to get a sneaky fetish after seeing some sneaky's from
josey, frey, scryggs, diveney, stacey, tucker, richard harris, olivier, etc..

As most of these cuemakers let u chose from different models, they all are standard... wich of these or other cuemakers makes or would be interested in making a custom sneaky pete that would be a monster player.

i was thinking of this:
18.5oz, forward balanced
4 pt Olivewood (my ALL time favorit wood, and no sp i ever seen had this, hence why im asking for a custom) into ebony or maple
ebony colar and butt
3/8-10 joint
G10 pin
flat faced wood to wood
rings at A,B and E silver-olivewood-silver (to contrast with the ebony)
smooth leather wrap
2 old growth shafts, ivory ferule, moori III S tip

i know its a bit more fancy then most sp, and i really need the wrap for my MASIVELY sweating hands during tournaments. i'd love to show to olivewood but i really need a wrap.

any cuemakers making custom sneaky's and that hit as good as a tucker or a frey or a TS or josey

 got to love this wood. ebony and olive are the nicest contrasting wood combo there is :D (my 0.2c)

Isn't this kind of an oxymoron? If it is fancy, it is not a sneaky. Sneaky's look like house cues with a joint in them.

I like Jerry Terbrock Cues. He will build you anything you like. A player himself and many titles behind his name, he knows what a stick should hit like.

He has a site you can visit and view some of the cues he has available and one's he has sold. http://jerryterbrock.com/ Chose the CUES link above.

He can design anything you like, any wood you want.:D

Give him a call or email him. You won't be sorry

No. Burl is NOT a good wood to do a sneaky with. I have yet to meet someone who would even try it. Perhaps for the forearm. I've seen Mark Bear do a full splice with Burl in the forearm. But not as the base wood cutting into the forearm. If anyone on here disagrees with me, let me know who will do it because that's basically my dream cue. An amboyna burl or any kind of burl, wrapless full splice).

Hey Pharoah, I've been looking for an Amboyna SP too, check my old threads if you like. Mr. Tucker was one of the people that responded, he said he would not do it, Mr. Frey and Mr. Bear told me the same thing.
There are the Full-Splice cored Amboyna blanks that Duc Lam (Cuemaster98) is currently experimenting with, I'm on the mailing list if and when they get it right.

Amboyna is going to need to be cored, as is most any burl you are looking at...again, not suitable for a full splice. As to the standard offereing of ebony, coco, bacote, purpleheart...and you left out rosewoods...there's a pretty good reason for this....they are the most stable woods in which to do a full splice cue from. Time tested...and all these cuemakers can't be wrong! Remeber tho'...there are a LOT of woods in the rosewood family...coco and tulipwood being a couple.do a search for woods in the rosewood family...I think you'll be amazed at the selection. I also like ash, but it is very light in weight. Some of the old house cues were made of bubinga and paduak, as well as oak.

I have to say that as a rule...if you cannot find a full splice made from a particular wood...there is probably a very good reason for it. Also, please bear in mind, if you are looking to purchase your own wood...some cumakers will not use customer supplied wood....there are too mnay variables. Some woods need to dry and age a very very long time....years even. Some suppliers may sell you 'green' wood....or wood that has not been dried properly. It is not that the cuemaker wants to force you to use their woods...it's because when they receive wood from a customer, there are too many unknowns...and they cannot guarantee how the wood is going to react once turning begins.

dave, that sounds very interesting :)

i'd love to own a amboyna burl cored full splice sp :D. we have the same taste :D
