I want to see what the consensus of this board thinks on the question below:

Assuming you're gambling, what do y'all use as a general rule of thumb on when the winner pays for the time? Never? Depends on how much you won vs price of time, or always?

here if you dont mention ahead of time then everyone pays their own time. Personally if I take alot off someone new and they say "you got my time?" ill say sure.

If it is for the beans, I always set that up before we break. I like to go with the loser pays table time. It gives that little incentive to start off and run with it. Otherwise, split it! I used to think the winner should pay, but as time goes by (and you win more), sometimes that doesn't really work out so well. LMAO!!! Always make that deal up front!

I always assume that its split time unless otherwise stated. Some people I play will pay the time if they win, and I will if I win more than about $50 (usually I'm playing cheap 20-25 dollar sets).

Then again I'm usually playing the same set of people and am fairly friendly with them.

Your table time isnt part of the gamble unless..

you shouldnt have to to pay the table time yourself, unless that was part off the gamble, Looser pay's the time ok? whitch happens alot, I agree it should be split between the players.

Ok, so I beat this guy out of $80 and then I find out the time is $35. He arrogantly says you got the time...I know you got the time and then calls me a nit for not wanting to pay the time. What a sore loser  The mgr tells me I owe $35 and I inform them that I wasn't the only one playing. They say the winner usually pays the time. If the time was $10, I wouldn't mind paying. But the time turned out to be $35 which is a different story. The arrogance from the person who lost doesn't motivate me to pay either. I pay half of $35 and walk out. Guess what? The person that lost walked out without paying and the staff are waiting for my other half....wtf

thats screwed up
most places here its a charge per person per hour.......so you walk up to pay they tell you what YOUR bill is, not the bill for the table. Regardless I think you did the right thing, whats customary for a place doesnt make it a rule, a rule is posted. I mean what if 2 guys played and theres a $40 tab and the winner only won $20? Does the winner still pay all? I dont know where you play at but they do business funny.

There is a middle ground here. If I win money off somebody but not enough to justify paying all the table time, I'll still probably pay for more than half the table time.

I always pay. But i play with regulars and the winner generally pays time.
No big deal.

whether it is gambling or no gambling,I make it clear before hand that `` u pay your time and I pay my time. You pay your tip and I pay my tip `` to the people that provided the service. For reasons only known to me I do not use the word `split the time`.
If I am playing with female players I always tell them `` please allow me to take the pleasure of taking care of the bill.``

Business is business, your almost asking us if we should tip or not to some extent.
If you beat the guy out of a $1,000 and he treats you like a piece of do do its obvious what I'd do.
If you like the person and want to do business with them again treat em in a way that will bring em back, the shoe could be on the other foot.
In the long run if your good and fair to your opponent, your chances of playing that person again, and that person telling another that your not a fricking jerk goes along way.
If the opponent just lost $50 to you and time is $40 and they whine about how you should pay, then your playing with 'bad action' and that person should be treated as such.
Common sense should be used. Hell I see people tip servers at restaurants 15% when they would of been better off giving em zero, especially when there service was so bad and they ruined your time there.
I would rather loose to someone that is nice to me, that a jerk.
I played a real ass one time, lost, I paid the time and told him, we'll never play again, and if anyone ever asks me if they should play you, I won't knock your action and tell em how you play, I'll just tell anyone and everone that asks me, that YOU are 'bad action'.

Win or lose I always figure to pay MY time. If I win more than twice the table time, I'll always pay both. Usually I pay both if I win enough to cover it anyway. If I lose, it's nice when someone picks up my time, but it's never expected.

And the owner of the room you played at has no right to tell you to pay for someone else, no matter HOW they do it!

Play the guy again, run the table time up to $50, lose the last set, unscew your cue and walk out the door!....fair is fair right?:)
