who wins this game?

I have a good friend that shoots not as good as I do. He drew Robb Saez at (I think) the Texas Open and won three games in a race to nine. I don't know but I'd bet in those three wins there were more than likely 10 balls pocketed. That's not counting some balls that he surely pocketed in the nine losses.

That said, Robb Saez is not a top-tier pro, IMO, but he's no slouch. But then, my friend may be nothing more than a straight-up C or slightly weaker.

I'm not saying that I could beat the pro every single race to ten, but I am certain that I could win a reasonable amount of matches. I have run a few 2-packs and I have too many break-and-runs to count, so as a C, I have the ability to run a good string of balls at any turn at the table. There's just too many variables to predict these sorts of outcomes.

With what you said about running a few 2 packs and having a lot of break and runs, you are not a C. A C would very very rarely have a break and run. You are probably a B. I play several C players in weekly tournaments. Over several years, I have seem them break and run maybe half a dozen times against me that I remember, if that. This is about 45 tournaments a year, 4-5 sets every tournament. Come close to a run out more often, but usually they get to the last few and make a mistake. I think a C player would break and run maybe once every 30 racks. They average 3-4 balls with ball in hand in 9 ball. As a high B, I get a break and run maybe every other set in a race to 4 or 5. Maybe get 2 in a row every 3-4 tournaments. 550-560 Fargo rating.

I've played in a match against svb, efren, earl and couple others over the years.

1. Earl in late 80's. It was 9 ball, wooden rack, winner break race to 9.

Of course I lost. I think score was around 5 to 9 (earl). I do remember I put a 4 pack on him early and then I stayed in my seat until he jumped the table and I ran out......then it was over when I missed again. I was happy with how I played.

2. Efren in late 80's. It was 9 ball, wooden rack, winner break race to ?...cannot remember.

All I honestly remember is losing lag, sitting for (i think) 4 or 5 racks and I did put a 2 pack (memory) together and sit the rest of set?...again memory on this one.

3. Dennis O. rocket city open huntsville, al.........10 BALL, race to 11 magic rack. 2017

Score was 6 - 11. I put one 2 pack and a 4 pack together but he then put a 5 pack and 6 pack together as I set and watched. I was getting last 3 and call 7.

Most that know my game say I'm an "A" to "A+" player.......just depends on who you ask and .....lol......my mental state that day............nerves..or nuvs.

It is like fighting Godzilla with a broom straw when looking across the table at these type players.

Anyone, that can play these type players and "not" get shook have been under the gun way more than I have.

I can play with most all the shortstops from weak to strong and not get the gitters but let a beast crawl in the ring and chit changes for some reason...lol.

Rake........<<<<<< wanna be player. That's why I stopped playing years ago and got a job. Now I can pay my bills AND play pool.........whew.......

Most SL7s in 9 ball are B players from what I have seen.

There are no C players that are maxed out in APA, You would need to be a good B player to do that, unless you are in some odd area where all the players are bad. I would not even say "Most 7s are B players", they all are. A C player would be like a 4-5 in the APA from C- to C+.

I agree that a D player probably stands very little chance. I'd put money on a solid C player pulling it off. Even the top tier pros don't play flawless pool every game. They make mistakes - not many, but in a dozen games...yes.
One loose safety play or a couple of dry breaks. Just like that, any player that can run 4 or 5 balls in rotation could easily get 10 balls out of a couple of errors or lucky rolls. Plus, even a D player has moments of C or B- skill level where he or she find themself playing over their head. I've been run out on by players that I've never seen run more than 3 balls. It happens.

If we are talking about a 50/50 chance, I would say a B player or higher. A C player will not be able to fade the solid safety play or kicking ability of a top player. My son who is a B+ has beaten C players in league where they made less than 10 balls before he won 4-5 racks. in a few cases in tournaments that were handicapped he kept a few low C and D players to under 6 balls total.

I agree a "b" player would be 50/50 but a solid "a" player will probably get their 10 balls very fast. I'm far from pro and I would have the nuts on that bet.

I played Dennis O and ran 40 something balls in 10 before he made a ball. Lol....i still lost 6 to 11.
