Who won the Glass City today ?

I read that Earl just quit after Johnnie Archer made a couple of balls? Did Earl say "that's good" when the guy has like 6 or 7 balls to run? Can someone confirm this?

There's an article about the final match on the AZ Billiard home page. It says that Earl raked the balls after the 2 or 3 was made (4 ball was made on the 1st shot). Just another chapter in the Earl being Earl book of sportsmanship.

That is where I read it, but I wanted to make sure. What kind of knucklehead is Earl? He has no class and Cuetec should drop him as a sponsor.

Earls Sortsmanship or "Lack thereof"

How long are they going to allow him to get away with this behavior????????

Are we sure it was bad sportsmanship? When I read it, I actually imagined it being a good thing... throwing in the towel after Johnny made the bank combo after the push out, then a tough shot on the one, and got shape on the 2, maybe the table was open and Earl was acknowledging he did the hard part and admitted defeat?

Was anyone there and can attest to the attitude and what exactly happened?

Here comes the Earl haters AGAIN!!!

Here is what happened. Johnny was on the hill 9-8. He called a pushout on the one, Earl gave the shot back. Johnny tried to kick the one up table and inadvertently dropped the 4. The 1 rolled funny, it was a VERY tough cut. The rest of the table was a "cosmo" type lay out. Johnny hit the tough cut, at which point Earl said something like "That will do it" and conceded by raking the table. He wasn't mad, pouting, complaining or whining before during or after the match nor the entire tournament. He just realized that a player of Johnnys level was out. I don't know if he would have done it had it been hill/hill.

Final match needed longer race

One race to 10 is too short for a final match in a regional tournament. Either it should be true double elimination (loser has to beat the winner twice), or it should be a race to 15 or 17. In this case, both Archer and Strickland had only 1 loss, but the 1st prize was awarded to Archer.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. That is exactly what I read into the article on the main page.

ok double elim

I have to admit when I saw it on TV I always wondered why there weren't two matches. I think it's actually kinda pathetic. They should have to beat them two matches if they come from the losers. That's how I've always played it and would expect the same thing.

If they want to try and make it more fair by adding games, then they need to double the amount of games played, but even that isn't fair, because then the loser's bracket guy would be going into the finals with atleast a one game spot.

I fully agree and don't understand why tournaments do this. Maybe for the sake of time, but what is one more match?

What are the good poolhalls in columbus?
