Who would you pick as your promoter?

I am contemplating a search for some sponsors sometime in the next couple of months. I would like to help start a tour and would like your opinions on who to be in charge. Do you have someone in mind? If you won the Powerball would you pick a promoter and start a decent tour. I have a couple of people in mind. Sam

This is a NO BRAINER Sam. Grady Mathews cares about pool more and has given more, both emotionally and financially than any one in history. The Derby City Classic this year, IMO, was the greatest pool event since the Johnston City days. Yes, even better than any U.S. Open. I can't wait til his Gulf Port, MS extravaganza.

Hemi, I'm rounding up players to come to that tournament with me now. I think I have 2 possibly 3 others. He is one of the guys I had in mind. Also thought about asking Mr. Breedlove if he'd be interested. Might not be great $$$ at the start, but this is about getting our sport going. Sam

Thanks for the positive words, gentlemen. I'd be glad to help and I don't need much in compensation, witness my roughly 15 years with Accu-stats.
I just left a nice upscale room in Greenwood, SC where the owner(s) had their first tournament. Without being overly critical or unkind let me say simply that they made every possible mistake. I was asked to help. So I did but they then overrode many of my adjustments and returned to futility.
It reminds of NYC, where, at the behest of the owners of Amsterdam Billiard Club, I went at my own expense to advise and suggest ways to have the best 14.1 event in the world. I presented them with a reasonable list of things to do, all of which literally reeked of common sense yet they followed not one of my suggestions. After the tournament, many extra smart people could be heard to say what a poor event it was, for most of the same reasons I had worked on.
Well, I digress. To the matter at hand. I have wonderful ideas for how to make a tour be the equal of football. But I just refuse to give this material to some Org., like the UPA, the BCA or the WPA. In this litigious age we live in, fellas, we'd have to protect ourselves. Then I'd be glad to seriously work with any quality person(s) who loves pool as much as I do. AND, there'd be MEGA bucks to be made and noone would care about that.
So please fully grasp what I am here-in stating. The pool aspects of everything we might come to terms to promote, I'll do. I don't want or need nor does our hallowed sport want or need direction on the pool areas from a lawyer or an architect or a businessman. By the same token I'll be delighted to keep my nose out of business matters.
This needs to be done absolutely as quickly as possible. We have a great sport for sale cheap but it's almost impossible to deal with these associations. Action of a positive and intelligent nature must be taken before they they (the orgs.) become any further entrenched into pocket billiards.

I think the world of George Breedlove. Ton of class, great player and truly loves the game. Not a bad choice either.

If the 2 or 3 others doesn't include Steve, twist his arm for me. I would love to see him again.

no question

Grady is the guy who I have chossen in the past and am doing it again. Grady and I,held the "world all around" some 20 odd years ago in Tampa. We didn't make any money, but we paid all who had it coming.

Grady and I have be involved as a team and have worked together at differant tournaments forever.

My new company, American Billiard Shows, is very proud to be part of the Grand Casino's tournament. I will be involved with Grady again at the grand casino. I'll handle the booths and bring several of my clubs members for selling cues. We will have American made products only. No over-seas, item can be sold. All American products.

I may try to talk him into Grady's tournament too. He would be fun in the car listening to pool stories. Did I ask you if you know his brother in law Mac Ashby. He is a great guy and tons of laughs. We went to a tournament about a 3 hour drive and we laughed the whole time. Steve sells insurance now but recently started to play seriously again. He played Durbin at DCC one pocket about 14 hours and broke even. He says selling insurance is just like hustling pool but you don't have to worry about any one knocking your action.
Grady if you read this I may want to talk to you sometime in the near future about your ideas. I can keep things to myself you don't want released to just everyone. I also have some ideas about getting respect for our game. Sam

Great idea Blud. All American products. Not that I'm prejudice. I think all people are just people, no matter where they're from. Hope to see you guys soon. Did you get ahold of the guys at Valley. Going to VNEA? Sam
