Who's going to Oroville?

Wow, that bar table tournament in Oroville, CA sounds great - $30,000 in singles and $15,000 for team added. I understand from a talk with the promoter that the rule implemented to only have one master, pro, semi-pro, or A player, etc. has been interpreted that the competition is going to be too great, so a lot of players are not committing! To me, I would think that it would be the other way around and limit the amount of good teams. I think they are going to be pretty understanding about how the teams are put together, so I would encourage everyone to get out there and play that can, so that they can make this an annual event. They want a lot of good OPEN teams playing. There will be some pros there in the singles, so it will be a lot of fun. Anyone from here going? If so, do you have a good team?

A good number of players in California are of course going. Too much money to miss out on this tourney. Some of my friends have some pretty good teams going, but the general consensus is that some top pros will find some undercover straight shooters and get some powerhouse teams together.

Race to 11 eight ball for teams- there could be some real long matches in this event.

**late edit: my friends just assumed that some top shooters would be there for the singles and would be able to find some good players for team. I hadn't heard about any pros in particular.

From what I heard from the promoter, there are no teams signed up with a top pro in them.

I know of two teams going from the Modesto area, and one of them is very strong...I plan on playing in the singles and maybe in the team event if I can line up a reasonable team. A race to 11 on bar boxes will go very quickly in the team event, assuming you are playing on two tables...See you guys on the table................Marc

This is a big tournament for No. Cal. The promoter is in a good position to make this a great annual event, that is of course if he gets the numbers out to play.

I have spoke with the promoter as well, and he is doing a very job and seems to be sincere in his interest to help the sport. The only problem I see is qualifying the teams under the written guidelines. It is going to be tough.

IMHO - It would seem that dropping the guidelines and allowing any and all players to play as a team would bring the most bodies to the sponsors casino. This of course would upset alot of regular league teams and it would be a very tough field.

On the other hand if the teams are limited this first time around it may reduce the turn-out, thus placing a ? mark with the sponsor and future events.

It is a dilemma which I am not sure what the answer is, but it would seem that retaining the sponsor should come first and then adjust the guidelines in the years that follow.

It will be a good event I just hope that it works for the sponsors, who are the ones puttin up the cash. We will see...

I agree, but you can't change everything in the middle now. It's ironic that the rule was implemented to prevent loading up a team and now everyone is scared that there will be a bunch that can get under the radar. IMO, letting it be a free-for-all would have brought on much tougher teams and then it would have made a lot of all-pro teams. With just one pro allowed, it is much easier to tell who is good and who is marginal, because someone is going to know who they are.

Also, he set it up like BCA Regionals, where there can only be one Master player per team, hoping to get the league players out there.

Anyway, I hope the place is jam-packed and successful.

Talked to the promoter today with all the money added more teams should be entered by this time....I do know a couple of teams procrastinating entering but it should by a great event. seems that many west coast team are in it it would be a better event if east coast teams got in.... 1st prize in team is $10,000 but could go up......i was told more teams more to play for

Oh, does that mean that we are all shooting in the master's division in Lincoln City? I am the only Master on the team. We thought we were shooting in the open.
