From here on out until the end of September, there is a pool tournament every single week and weekend, especially on the East Coast. This is good news for pool players who travel the tournament trail, and the Masters will be Stop No. 1 for most of the top guns.
The 2005 9-Ball Masters Championship had been rescheduled due to a conflict of dates, and it begins NEXT WEEK, Tuesday, July 26th, and ends Sunday, July 31st. World-renown Scott Smith will be in the house as the tournament director, making sure things run smoothly.
Quite a few players in my neck of the woods have already committed and are going. Anybody who has been to Q-Masters, the venue site, knows it's a first-class pool room and comfortable for railbird viewing. VIP seating is available. Out of all the pool T-shirts I have purchased over the years, the Q-Masters T-shirt is the BEST, very colorful and one of a kind.
Based on a 128-player field, a $200 entry fee can net a mighty fine return, and here are the payouts:
1st: $7,500.00
2nd: $5,000.00
3rd: $3,500.00
4th: $2,500.00
5th-6th: $1,750.00
7th-8th: $1,200.00
9th-12th: $800.00
13-16th: $600.00
17th-24th: $400.00
25th-32nd: $300.00
I attended a tournament at Q-Masters a few years ago, and every single person in attendance had a blast. The action during the off hours was one of the many highlights, and the competition was topnotch. Veteran Dave Bollman is the House Pro at Q-Masters.
I think Michael Coltrain of North Carolina won the Masters the year I went. If there was ever an example of a true Southern gentleman, Michael Coltrain fits the bill. Known as one of the BEST pool handicappers in the country, Michael also hits 'em pretty sporty, too! Picture of Coltrain below.
So, is anybody from AzBilliards going?
